Does Zyrtec work for poison ivy itching? I have a really bad poison ivy and it itches extremely bad....i was wondering if zrytec will help stop the itching...

Altstadtweib replied: "no, try to see a doctor. there is a special pill they will give you"

How long does it take for the itching to stop after discontinuing Zyrtec? My 7-year-old daughter was on Zyrtec for the past 9 months for allergies and I took her off after a couple of freezes, because I figured her allergies should be alleviated. For the past week she has been experiencing severe itching, particularly on her scalp. I realized that the itching began within 24 hours after she missed her last dose. Upon searching the internet, I've found that his is a common withdrawal symptom of the drug. The poor little thing is miserable at night and hasn't slept very well, and I'm just wondering how long she'll have to deal with this.

emtd65 replied: "Inform her doctor. It may not have as much to do with the withdrawal as it does that she has allergies and needs to be treated year round."

Should I be expecting the awful itching once I get off of Zyrtec? I've been taking it for two weeks, but I was feeling very tired everyday, regardless of the sleep. I wanted to get off it, but then started reading about the itching side effect. Just wondering if anyone knew if being on it for two weeks was long enough to significantly affect me.

Ed Atun replied: "Only a small percentage of people experience the itching. Go ahead and stop if you are feeling tired.."

Does anyone know if taking a Zyrtec will alleviate the itching caused by Percocet? Ultracet SUCKS! I just had back surgery 6 weeks ago and it messed my back up more. I'd rather have morphine! However, it wasn't me I was asking about. I can deal with the itch, my friend, however, can't. He's in a lot of pain and prescribed them himself, but the itch is driving him CRAZY! I can't stand seeing him like this!!! And itching is a NORMAL thing, he's just itching very badly. He's taken them lots of times before though so I don't understand why this time is different. Maybe it's a different brand???? I don't know.

J B replied: "It can help because is is an allergy medication. Benadryl helps better but should not be taken at the same time as Zyrtec because of increased sedation. If you are itching from Percocet, you need to stop taking this medication."

? replied: "not sure if it will or not but your doctor can prescribe you another pain pill just as good as percocet called ultracet and it doesn't cause itching for most people thAT ARE/OR HAVE ALLERGIC REACTIONS TO PERCOCET, AND ITS NON-ADDICTIVE LIKE PERCOCET."

itching cat and zyrtec? my cat is itching pretty bad. he just licks and licks and scratches. also he bites his fur til it comes off. can he take Zyrtec i think he has allergies or what about Claritin thanks all!

Alex replied: "uh no. take the kitty to the vet. he is not a person, so no people medicine unless you called your vet"

Bozema replied: "No - never give human drugs. Some are deadly to cats (Tylenol for example is highly toxic) and you don't know the correct dose even if it was the right drug. Go see the vet."

stormwarnfm replied: "Well, you really should find out what the cause of the itching and scratching is. Is it fleas, allergies, skin problems? Only your vet will know. Liquid infant benadryl, at 1/4 of a dose you'd give to an infant, can be administered to relieve allergic symptoms if they are allergies (my vet told me to do that for one of my cats who is allergic to fleas). Just be ready for an onslaught of slobber...they look rabid after you give it to them for a few minutes! Totally normal, though, according to my vet."

Little replied: "He probably has flees. I would not give him any medicine. Take him to the vet! They will tell you what to do...but again...def do not give the cat human medicine!"

J C replied: "No Zyrtec is not safe for your cat, nor is Claritin. There are a few antihistamines that are cat safe at the right dosage - these are not one of them. You need to get to the source of why he is itching - it could be allergies (generally to corn in the food you're feeding him) or it could be fleas. Until he's diagnosed though, you're just guessing and that isn't doing anything to get to the root of his problem."

What is the difference between singulair and zyrtec or claritin? I currently take Singulair which has not helped me even though it used to. I'm now experiencing itching when im out side and my body feels like its burning up all the time. Can Zyrtec or Claritin do the job that Singulair couldnt? or should i look elsewhere besides me allergies for the root of the problem thank you all

Tressa M replied: "check out my blog on How to control seasonal allergies and what meds that are good to take. For me I like Zyrtec. "

cuppycake1995 replied: "prescription clarinex is better than all of those put together!!!"

it's me replied: "I take singular every day and every other day I take zyrtec. the zyrtec has helped a lot even though I take it every other day. I would recommend that. I have taken claritin before but it didnt really help me. Ask your doctor if you have any other questions."

Can I take Zyrtec for a skin allergic reaction? I changed body wash and laundry detergent last week, and since then have noticed that I have itchy bumps like mosquito bites all over my legs, arms, and hips. I have been putting Benadryl on but that has only stopped the itch, not taken the bumps away. I changed back to my regular detergent and body wash, so until they go away can I take Zyrtec? Or would that not help at all? Thanks!

kf4crn replied: "Yes. My Doctor had me get zyrtex for a rash one time. Worked great."

Is it safe to take 2 zyrtec allergy pills at the same time? my sisters has three cats which i am highly allergic to. when i do go to her house i usually cant stay for any longer than 15 minutes or i'll start sneezing and itching and my nose just starts pouring. well i went over to her house yesterday for a dinner party and i took a zyrtec allegry pill about 1 hour before arriving to her house. I was ok for about an hour but then it was over, i was miserable again. so i was wondering if it was ok to take two, maybe it might last longer.

Louie L replied: "I THINK IT SHOULD BE OK.JUST DONT TAKE AN OVERDOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

pimp replied: "You need to contact your doctor because taking the wrong dose of medicine can kill you"

Has anyone experienced itchy skin when you stop taking Zyrtec? Whenever I have been taking Zyrtec for a few months and then stop taking it, my skin itches all over for days. What causes this? I have read that it is not uncommon for this to happen.

gouldgirl2002 replied: "Yes! Happened to me."

littleturtleboy replied: "Sounds like its just your allergies going into overdrive. Once the antihistamine effects have worn off, then the allergens cause stimulation and release histamine. The histamine makes things itchy. Its likely because when you were on the Zyrtec, you had no symptoms at all, but now that you have stopped you are all of a sudden aware. After awhile though, you may become used to it and no longer feel it as much. The other possibility is that Zyrtec and antihistamines in general cause dryness - or drymouth due to its anticholinergic effects. If you skin is dry, it can feel itchy. However, it should be when you are on the medication and not off it."

rrbiermann replied: "What's Zyrtec?"
