What are the symptoms of High and Low testosterone? I found a bit on Low but can't really find any symptoms of high testosterone. What are they?

THINKABOUTIT replied: "The Symptoms of High Testosterone are: 1. Always Always Thinking about sex. 2. When you have high testosterone, you can very easily get sexualy aroused. & 3. You get Bombarded with Tons of erections everyday."

DJ Alski replied: "Testosterone is a steroid hormone from the androgen group. In mammals, testosterone is primarily secreted in the testes of males and the ovaries of females, although small amounts are also secreted by the adrenal glands. It is the principal male sex hormone and an anabolic steroid. In both men and women, testosterone plays a key role in health and well-being as well as in sexual functioning. Examples include enhanced libido, increased energy, increased production of red blood cells and protection against osteoporosis. On average, an adult human male body produces about forty to sixty times more testosterone than an adult female body, but females are more sensitive to the hormone.[1] However the overall ranges for male and female are very wide, such that the ranges actually overlap at the low end and high end respectively. "

What are some symptoms of high testosterone levels in women? are skin breakouts and very fast weight gain common symptoms of this?

Sparticus replied: "Basically, the same as men. More hair, grow testis (just kidding), enhanced libido, increased energy, increased production of red blood cells and protection against osteoporosis, oily skin, bad body odor, faster body growth, and a host of other things."

Andy replied: "Signs & Symptoms -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Abnormally high testosterone levels in women can lead to a variety of symptoms. Most often, women with high testosterone levels develop male pattern hair growth (hirsutism), especially on their faces and chests. More rarely and over time, some women may experience virilization, which is increased muscle mass, redistribution of body fat, enlargement of the clitoris, deepening of the voice, male pattern baldness, acne, and/or increased perspiration. It is important to note that some women develop hirsutism without having a high testosterone level. I am not sure if weight gain comes with high testosterone. But it is common with hypothyroidism Here are the signs of that: Increased sensitivity to cold Constipation Pale, dry skin A puffy face Hoarse voice An elevated blood cholesterol level Unexplained weight gain Muscle aches, tenderness and stiffness Pain, stiffness or swelling in your joints Muscle weakness Heavier than normal menstrual periods Depression"

High Testosterone Symptoms? Does it sound like I have high testosterone? I have large eyebrows and a unibrow if I don't shave it. I've always had peach fuzz on my upper lip, it's black hair so I guess it's more noticable. I have a bit of body hair. Hairy legs and a sort of hairy arms. My voice is about average. Most people say it's average, very few say it's kind of deep. I don't know if I build muscle easily, I never do sports or work out. I'm pretty short, about 5'6 and 15. Does it sound like I have high testosterone, and does high testosterone cause male pattern baldness? I'm male by the way.

Praire Crone replied: "Male pattern baldness is genetic hon. If the males in your blood line are bald---you run a good chance of being bald also. You need to quit worring about something that you most likely have no control over and concentrate on school and such. Such is life and you will meet up with other situations where you will just have to accept life at face value. My oldest son began to grow bald as did his grandfathers at age 16. He fought it at first but found that really it wasn't an issue that meant much in the long run. It doesn't mean anything to us his loving parents, his beautiful wife or loyal friends. So live your life to the fullest hon. Good Luck."

High Female Testosterone w/ No Symptoms? I'm a 19-year-old female. I have recently been tested for total testosterone and got a 92 ng/dL (normal 6-82). This seems quite high to me, but the only symptom I have of high testosterone is acne. I have regular periods (never skipped one in my life, and they're always on time), I have no hirsutism other than dark nipple hair (which isn't really hirsute and my doctor and others said some women just have this), I'm slim and very feminine-looking in the body and face, I have quite a high voice (which I hate), and I have a normal sex drive. I don't have any of the symptoms of high testosterone..how did I test at 92?

Poof replied: "maybe it is something that you very recently developed, and it might be too early for any symptoms to have set in."

High testosterone levels? No symptoms? My doctor sent me for bloodwork because I have little to NO sex drive. She was expecting low testosterone levels, however my tests showed that my testosterone levels are extremely high? I have no symptoms of PCOS. No hair, had a baby, regular cycles... What could it be?

Doctor J replied: "Hi Jessica. Lab tests often come back 'incorrect'. If this result does not match your clinical presentation (in fact it sounds like the number is unusually high), it may be appropriate to repeat the test to confirm (validate) this abnormal finding. Best wishes and good luck."

Vanessa replied: "I would get a second opinion, just in case. You never wanna just start taking some kind of medicine, and then find out that the results where wrong. Just because you have no sex drive, does not necessarily mean that you have something medically wrong with you. Since you have a baby, I would assume that you do have sex, or use to have sex on a regular basis. But now.. it just isn't appealing to you. Are you maybe tired of the same routine? Maybe.. want a little more excitement? Try spending the weekend at a nice hotel, without the baby. It can really help. And.. experiment with new positions, buy a Karma Sutra book. Get a second opinion. GOOD LUCK :)"

What are the symptoms that your testosterone level is high? I've heard about this happen with females. Is this true? What can be done to decrease this or atleast put it back to normal? Could this be a cause of homosexuality in women?

I_Love_McRedneck replied: "It causes increased facial hair - male pattern hair. It also causes an increase in your $ex drive. It won't cause homosexuality. There's no 'natural' way to cure it. Try a BCP or diabetes meds, those are the only ways to offset these levels. It's a sign of PCOS, a much more serious problem so see your doc. I'm having ovarian drilling done in 2 weeks to fix mine."

~TAY~ replied: "I went to the doctor and I had it. The only thing with me was I didn't have a period for about 7 months! I'm still kinda messed up but it is fixing its self!"

What are the symptoms and treatment for high testosterone? I was recently tested for free testosterone and blood work came back with high levels. I go for a doctor appointment next week but I'm anxious to find out exactly what this means for me. My "symptoms" are hair growth on chin and chest, fatigue, hard to lose weight, insomnia, social anxiety, occasional abdomen pain, mood swings & irritability, & high pulse rate. I have a 7 month son but really want to have a girl in the future. Does this mean my chances of getting pregnant again are reduced, or that my chances of having another boy are increased if I do get pregnant? What treatment may be prescribed for me? I'd really love to get my weight under control and it is essential to me that my insomnia is cured. I'm 33 years old. My periods are very regular though... is it possible to have PCOS and have clockwork like periods? They are usually not very heavy but very consistent and I was able to time it so we conceived our child fairly quickly because I know exactly when I ovulate and get my period.

Brooke M replied: "I'm 26 and have the SAME symptoms. After visiting the Dr, I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). It's main symptoms are weight gain, trouble losing weight, hair growth in unwanted places (chest, chin, lip, thicker eye brows, thighs, etc), fatigue, acne, anxiety, depression, pain in stomach from cysts, irregular periods. If you have PCOS, yes, your chances for getting pregnant are reduced bceause your body does not ovulate normally, but its not impossible. I got pregnant with my last daughter after being diagnosed and it only took us 2 months, so dont worry about that. I was prescribed to Metformin. This medication is actually originally used to treat diabetics for high blood sugar but is also used for PCOS to lower testosterone levels, and give energy to help avoid so much fatigue. I was also prescribed to Lexapro and Xanax for the depression and anxiety. I've been told that there isn't a cure, but its easy to treat. Since being treated, I've lost weight, feel good, hair growth has reduced, periods are back to normal.. the only thing that has gone unfixed is acne. OH.. and the Xanax would help you with sleep. I have SEVERE insomnia, which is why the Dr gave me the Xanax. It has made a world of difference for me. I hope this helps. Let me know what you find out. I am very curious just because I too have the same symptoms and if you dont have what I have... I want to research my own health. :)"

MaryAnne replied: "Ask your doctor about Spironolactone, It will drastically reduce any new hair growth. Diane 35 (birth control) also reduces hair growth and will help regulate your hormones."

My Testosterone levels are low, but i have the symptoms of it being to high? My testosterone levels are very low for my age. 245 on a scale of 300-800 is normal for my age. Free Test is .54 and for my age it needs to be at least .90. I have had low test before so I started taking tongkat ali to boost my levels and I now have alot of energy, no sexual problems at all, I feel super aggressive almost too much so. All Signs of high testosterone, but yet my levels are still low? Why is that? Could the herb possible interfere with the test some how or is there some other explanation for this? I did mention that I was taking these herbs beforehand to the doctor

Harley Girl replied: "Before u take any kind of test like that tell the doctor first about what ur taking and if/when u should stop so u can get an accurate reading."

Do I have an extra high amount of Testosterone? How can I find out if I have a high amount testosterone? What are the symptoms of really high amounts of testosterone I`m a male and my age is 24

Q replied: "If you're female--deeper voice, hair growth on your face and body, high libido, beginnings of male pattern baldness. If you're male, then I'm not sure what the symptoms are. A simple blood test can tell your hormone levels."

How do you lower testosterone to boost your fertility? I had a fertility work up and the doctor said I had high testosterone and some symptoms of hirsutism. My BMI is 24 and I do not having any problems with gaining weight or insulin resistance.

lance1949 replied: "If you are female then getting onto the birth control pill can help, especially if it is high in estrogen. However, there are other issues with this that your doctor could discuss."
