Lamictal 200 Facts in Q&A
If I increase my Lamictal to 200 mg will I gain weight? I take 100mg for depression

lil bit replied: "Not necessarily. I don't think I gained weight on Lamictal."

There4U replied: "That is a tough question to answer because every body reacts differently to medication. You will see on the packaging that there are many side effects that go along with certain medications. That does not mean you will get all of them. Some people may get 3 of them, while other people may not experience any of them. Everybody's systems are different. When you orignally started taking Lamictal, did you gain weight? And if you did, did you gradually lose it? I believe increasing the same brand of medication should not cause weight gain, if it did not originally. I would suggest you do not increase it by yourself... be sure you are letting your doctor determine how much of an increase he thinks you will need. Increasing it on your own could cause side effects (possibly weight gain). When you see your doctor, you can discuss weight gain with him and ask what he thinks. Good Luck!"

If I've been taking 150 mg Zoloft and 200 mg Lamictal daily for 3 years and...? ...and I have missed two weeks worth of doses, would there be any potentially dangerous side effects from starting them all again at the full dosage I was prescribed? I haven't experienced any "withdrawl" symptoms really, besides a strange penchant for getting teary and/or crying at the drop of a hat when something gets to me (whether it be happy or sad). Should I start slowly up again or just go back to taking those dosages? I know I know I'm stupid for missing the dosages for so long... I won't do it again. So does anyone know or have any input? Thanks for your help if you do! :D

jack h replied: "regular doses should be fine, you might experience minor mood swings over the first 3 days. If you experience a seizure then you need to reduce to dosage to 50mg of lamictal and you need to take that every 2 days, same goes for zoloft"

TheOne replied: "I am not a doctor and don't like giving medical advice. Yo need to speak to the subscribing physician. Good Luck."

whoohaa replied: "You should consult your perscriber/psychiatrist before any consumptions for safe advice from someone who knows what theyre doing."

Are any of you that are on Weight Watchers take the drug Lamictal? I have been on WW three weeks. The first week I lost 5 lbs., the second I lost 4.5 lbs., but this week I gained back 4. I know I exceeded my point allowance but not by that much. The dr. increased my Lamictal dosage from 100 to 200 mg. last week. Do you think that could be a leading factor in the weight gain?

sunrise11 replied: "Lamictal is typically known for weight loss, not weight gain. It is possible that part of the weight gain this week is from water retention. Remain within your guidelines and check again next week. If there is an increase in weight let your Dr. know. Remember not to discontinue use of prescribed medication without a doctors advice."

What happens if you don't take LAMICTAL regularly, but say to go to sleep you take like 200? mg then only take them randomly... is that bad, what does LAMICTAL do anyway... (I know with 2 it makes my tongue feel tingly and numb)

Angelic1 replied: "I use to take lamictal. But not on a regular basis. My doctor would get pissed. He said it could have major harm on your body. and could even kill you. But i'm not dead, so i couldn't say for sure. But when i didn't take it, i would get really bad headaches, stomach aches, and feel sick to my stomach all the time."

frogaholic23 replied: "All I know is I LOVE LAMICTAL, but I don't take it for sleep, I take it what it's for, a mood stabilizer, i'm Bipolar. I wouldn't be alive today without it! anyway, enough bragging. All drugs have side effects, Lamictal for instance you have to watch out for a rash, it can turn deadly!!! there's some gruesome pitures on webmd.com, i think that's where i saw them? anyways, there's info on lamictal and side effects there too. most common side effects of most drugs are nausea/vommiting, diarrhea or contipation, headache, dizziness, weakness, drowsiness etc. Lamictal made me sleepy for the first few months I started it (300mgs) but I NEED to take it every day, if you don't need to, and you take it ramdomly, then I don't think there would be any ill effects. It would only be bad if you had side effects from it that outwieghted the good."

kool2bkind replied: "how about seeing your dr?"

Will hair loss stop after I quit Lamictal? I've been on Lamictal almost 5 months, and It has caused devastating hair loss. I was up to 200 mg and now I'm down to 25 mg and will be at 0 soon. I have seen lots of stuff on Google about hair loss and women who are quitting because of it, but never any follow-up stories. How long will it take after quitting before I am losing hair at a normal rate again?

M.D. Alison C replied: "yes! it is possible!!! year ago I suffered very much from dandruff and hair loss too and I started trying everything you can imagine to stop my hair loss. the things that really worked for me was: 1) Vitamin A - an anti-oxidant which promotes healthy production of sebum in the scalp; 2) Vitamin E stimulates circulation. Good blood circulation in the scalp is important in keeping hair follicles productive. The 'B' vitamins contribute to melanin, which gives hair its healthy color and also stimulates blood circulation; 3) massage is also beneficial. Massage stimulates circulation. As already noted, good circulation in the scalp keeps hair follicles active. Experts suggest a few minutes of daily head massage by hand. Circulation through massage may be improved by using a few drops of lavender or bay essential oil in an almond or sesame oil base with massage; 4) Try rubbing your scalp with garlic juice, Onion Juice or Ginger Juice(you can either of one out of three, Do not mix any of two or three); 5) also he used herbal treatment - TrichoZed and Provilluss (do not use Rogaine - it will not work!) Those are a good products that helps prevent hair loss and contains Biotin and the clinically tested ingredients approved by the FDA to help re-grow your hair.! I think it is very important! It worked and still works for me! I do not know if any pharmacies carry TrichoZed but I do know that you should purchase it directly from the manufacturer and read more about the product here and here It enhances hair growth by blocking DHT (Dihydrotestostrone) - a major cause of hair loss! Also Informative video about Provillus - good luck! not only my own personal experience + working as a family physician "

I asked a question about drinking milking and then getting real sleepy and having to nap.? the answer was: tryptophan in milk which gets people sleepy. The subject of serotonin, came up. I take efflexor 300mg and Lamictal 200 mg for depression and anger. Dose the efflexor and the Lamictal have an effect on my tryptophan level?

Lana H replied: "wow.. u need a doctor to answer that question.. but it probably does.. if those meds keep you calm and relaxed.. then they probably do and drinking milk.. (warm milk mmm) Would probably knock u out.. but thats just my opinion.."
