About Lexapro Night Sweats in Q&A
How do I stop having horrible night sweats? I wake up EVERY morning with the sheets soaked, top and bottom. I've tried taking my birth control at a different time, I've switched my Lexapro (anti-depressant) from morning to night time. I'm miserable. Can somebody please help me?

Alli*LOVES*Artie*Lange replied: "Wow. Sounds awful. Maybe the night sweats are caused by something else. Call your doctor and tell him. If the antidepressant causes more problems maybe you are better off without it."

shasta98c replied: "I cant help with the night sweats but please take your antidepressant in the morning. it is a mood enhancer/ lifter and can make you an insomniac."

ultrabr0w replied: "I would get them checked out as nights sweats can often mean another underlying problem/s. One of the first symptoms of various lymphatic cancers are chronic night sweats. Have you been losing weight recently without trying? Have you got swollen glands in your neck, under the armpits or around the groin area? Check your birth control pills and anti-depressants to see if a common side effet is night sweats, if not then I would get yourself checked out"

Legacy replied: "Try adjusting the dosage of your meds if the sweats started after you started taking them. You may need to see a sleep psychologist if thats not the problem. They'll do observations on you and determine what the problem is."

Gard23 replied: "Night sweats can be a side-effect of the Lexapro."

How long do Lexapro withdrawl symptoms last? I've tapered off Lexapro and the side effects are killing me! I feel fine as far as depression and anxiety are concerned, but the physical symptoms are awlful - dizziness, nausea, nightmares, night sweats, strange tingling in my face and head . . .

sunshine replied: "Two weeks to one month. It depends on how long you have taken it. Hang in there."

crazy_fuzzy_bunny replied: "The general rule on psychotropic / Antidepressant medication is two weeks in, two weeks out. It takes to weeks for it to enter and leave the system. Good luck!"

Please share any experiences you have had going from zoloft to lexapro.? I am thinking about making the switch.. How long does it take for lexapro to kick in... I know zoloft takes about a month. What are the differences between the two drugs? I get terrible night sweats from zoloft and someone else told me lexapro was a miracle drug. I know it is different for everyone --- but would love to get some feedback. thanks.

Leslie replied: "They were REALLY bad for me. I was one of those kids under 18 that took it before they knew what it could do. I was OCD about killing myself. It was all I could ever think about, worse than before I took it. I'm sure it can be useful for some adults, but because of my experience I refuse to take and SSRIs. I would just encourage you if your feeling get worse don't ignore it, tell your prescriber!"

grace replied: "I never took Zoloft, but I do take Lexapro. When I started it I did have bad night sweats. That was my only bad side effect, and it helped my anxiety and obsessive thoughts a lot. Good luck!"

lexi m replied: "I took Lexapro as an anti-depressant for bi-polar. I could never achieve orgasm while taking it. The problem went away as soon as I stopped taking it. Also I felt nauseous the first week, but that went away. Right now I take Abilify 10 mg instead."

Andy replied: "There is a mild effect in about one to two weeks with Lexapro, however it can take 4 to 6 weeks to see the full benefits of the drug. I never took lexapro but I did get sweaty easily from the zoloft."

I am 27 year old female, sometimes I have night sweats, why? What are the causes for me to sweat at night? Sometimes, as often as a few times a week, I will wake up sweaty on my face, hair and chest. My dad and 10 year old sister get this too. Sometimes, I can go weeks or months without sweating like this at night. I live in AZ, so I sweat a little during the day, but not much at all. I am taking Yasmin birth control and Lexapro for anxiety, but I just started those two medications 2 weeks ago, and this sweating has been happening for a few months at least, so I don't thibnk it is related to those medications. What could this be?

noseygirl replied: "Could be from the meds, or you may just need to lower the temp in your home at night. I read that it makes you sleep batter if the room is cool."

Bandett replied: "Your house is built on an old indian burial ground."

Anyone take lexapro for anxiety? I was taking Paxil for anxiety however, it was causing me to have night sweats. Doctor suggested Lexapro. He said it has the least side effects. Anyone taken this before? If so how did it compare to Paxil?

lucy02 replied: "I take it for depression but it helps my anxiety too (alot)."

HK3738 replied: "i would agree with the least side effects part, I know it is very effective too, good luck"

seminoleswty replied: "My husband takes Lexapro It's been the best he's used over everyhing else he tried even paxil. he's had no side effects so far and has been taking it for 2 years now. I couldn't live with him without it lol"

bor_rabnud replied: "I have taken this for 2 years now and it has worked great for me.I think you will like it because it is one of the cleaner anti-depressants out. Fewer side effects."

cpr_dummy2003 replied: "well I have never taken paxil but But i have taken lexapro for the last 2 and a half years. it has done me a world of good. the only side effect so far has been a dry mouth. but atleast 6 8oz glasses of water a day takes care of this."

Sarah replied: "i've taken lexapro for depression. it works really well, but it does have a few side effects that normally go away after a while. i think the fist week of taking it i felt a little queasy, but after that i felt fine. the lexapro did make me hungry all the time. so your appetite might change...but really side effects are different for each person."

all replied: "YES, I WAS ALSO ON PAXIL, BUT I HAD ABSOLUTLY NO SEX DRIVE WHILE ON IT, SO MY DR. SWITCHED ME TO LEXAPRO. I DIDN'T HAVE THAT MUCH DIFFERENCE WHILE ON IT TO BE HONEST. I WAS ON ANTI-DEPRESSANTS FOR A FEW YEARS AND I WAS STARTING TO FEEL LIKE A ZOMBIE! I COULDN'T CRY WHEN I WANTED TO, I JUST DIDN'T FEEL MYSELF. AFTER GOING OFF THEM I FEEL MUCH BETTER AND MORE LIKE MYSELF. I UNDERSTAND SOME PEOPLE HAVE TO BE ON THEM. MY BEST FRIEND IS ON LEXAPRO AND LOVES IT. (IT ALSO MADE ME GAIN WEIGHT!)"

mikey replied: "Tell you The Truth i Been on 15 ssri on and off for 6 years. to me Lexapro was the Worst By Far 1 week i was dizzy i know this medicine takes 8 weeks to kick in i took this medicine back in 2003 i say i hate this medicine and i stopped it in a week horrible for me"

Miss Cassie replied: "I have a friend who takes it for anxiety and she said it really helps! The only thing she complains about it that if you have to miss taking it for any reason, it's takes a few days to be effectively back in your system"

blaze23 replied: "I've been taking Lexapro since March. It has helped me a lot. I have never been ox paxil so I cant compare the two. However these are the side effects I have noticed with Lexapro, very sleepy at first right after taking it lasted 4-6 weeks. Now I have no problem with it. It did not affect me at work I tried to keep myself busy took naps when was home. If you drink while taking it, it can make you drowsy real quickly also. Urinary frequency at first as well 4-6 weeks. Its metabolized by the liver and I've noticed I bruise easier with it now, that is listed as a side effect. You may not have any of these issues, but they do clear up with use. Good luck."

Andy replied: "Lexapro is a better med when it comes to anxiety disorders. It was originally studied for the treatment of anxiety unlike paxil which was studied for depression. Also, Lexapro interacts with fewer medications than Paxil. I don't take either of those meds so I can't give any personal insight but I figure to at least deliver some facts... good luck... Andy..."

Can Lexapro cure sweating associated/triggered with high anxiety situations ? I suffer from what has been diagnosed as a combination of hyperhydosis (specific to the facial region) and anxiety which triggers the facial sweating. For the past 15 years I have suffered from excessive facial sweating when in social settings and or high anxiety situations i.e. speaking in front of a group, conducting presentations etc. As you may or may not know, this can be extremely embarassing and hamper both your personal and professional life. I have tried almost everything....beta blockers, anti-depressants, topical solutions, xanax etc. Recently, I was told the Lexapro can be used to treat anxiety, and even though that night sweating IS a side effect, if you take it consistantly for 4-6 weeks, sweating will actual disappear. Any help will be greatly appreciated as I'm desparate for treatment. I have a job where I must speak/present often, and I can't afford another sweaty presentaion!

Windy replied: "Lexapro is a great anti anxiety medication, but i don't think it will cure your hyperhidrosis. I had it to but not on my face. I swear by drysol. I haven't had to use it in about 5 years. There are the botox shots and ETS surgery. Here is a web site with some info. I hope it helps. The lexapro may help so definitely try it. GOOD LUCK."

KathieJo replied: "I have never heard of that side effect, but it's worth a try, if your Doctor agrees! kjl"

Andy replied: "Lexapro is an excellent anti-anxiety medication. I take it for depression and anxiety and it works well for both."

Tara replied: "Yes, Lexapro should help you out some of your answers can be answered here too"

What to expect from lexapro? first few days? Just wondering, what can i expect from lexapro? i took like 1/4 of a 10 mg tablet the other night and suffered major anxiety attack. Shaking, sweating couldn't control my body Temperature. anyone else had anything like this befor? Should i try taking it again tonight? I want to get better. could 1/4 a tablet do this to me or is it just in my head =\ ? thank you chole.

Chloe F replied: "im taking an SSIR similar to yours, yes that is side effects but they do tone down after a few weeks but come back when u start taking a full tablet. it has helped my anxiety alot, its been 6wks but still waiting for them to fully kick in."

James M replied: "SSRI's can cause night sweats but your 2.5 mg Lexapro dosage seems very, very low. I've used 10 mg of Lexapro and had almost no side effects, just slight nausea at first, that went away after a few days. Lexapro has very few side effects, unlike some of the other SSRI's. You should be fine. Just give your body time to adjust to the medication and talk to your doctor if you think you're having a serious reaction."

How do I convince a new doctor to put me back on Clonazepam? I am in a stressfull situation for the next two months and it is making my anxiety spike. I've even started to have night sweats. My appointment is on Friday. SSRI's used to work, but now they do the opposite. Maybe it's just lexapro that doesn't work. I don't know.

Frankie V replied: "Describe honestly to your psychiatrist your symptoms ... be as brutally honest and sincere as possible about the intensity of your anxiety and how it is affecting you. If your doc thinks you just have normal anxiety then he is just going to recommend another SSRI."

rickyoutfield replied: "Why would you take this drug anyway. These drugs unbalance your hormonal system and even if it seems fine, there can be health complications from the drug. The fact that SSRIs do the opposite tells me that this is happening. I've worked a lot with people on these drugs. They effect the pituitary gland which then effects the adrenal glands and then unbalances the hormonal system - thus the side effects. Night sweats may have come from the other drugs you've taken. I would look for a natural way to handle what is going on. Go to a nutritionist. Try tart cherry - it is natural and won't unbalance things. Just make sure its flash pasteurized. You can find it in liquid or capsules."

i have started lexapro 5 mg almost two weeks ago, is normal to feel good one day and bad the next? it started about mid feb, panic and anxiety attacts, with sudden bouts of"depression'', i would take my xanax and it would go away. i called up my doctor and had him put me back on zoloft.. i had taken this before for mild depression with severe panic attacks for years although this time i got really bad to about two weeks into the medication, with severe anxiety panic and extreme night sweats. my legs constantly felt like they were gonna run away from my body. i began to have bad crying spells where i didnt know what to do. i was scared. also having suicial ideation thoughts.....i dont want to die nor commit suicide, but the what if type thoughts were popping into my head. i started to take lexapro 5mg, just two weeks ago, i have had days where i felt okay, and people say i look alot better, but some days i wake up severly depressed yet with no energy, feel weird and detatched, and anxious, and even smoking makes me feel worse... is it just the brain chemicals ajusting? its so frustr actually, i started with the suicidal thoughts and all with the zoloft, still had them two weeks after i was off everything completly..... started the lexapro and maybe they are diminishing... i have had more good days since i started the medication, but like today i feel like complete crap, sont want to do anything, kinda zoned out, detatched, no energy, but yesterday i felt pretty good. everyday is different

soupisgoodfood replied: "I felt really weird for the first month or so that I took it. But now I've been taking it for almost a year and I feel fine. But if you're having suicidal thoughts you need to stop taking it and let your doctor know what's going on so they can either adjust the dosage or try a different medication."

amandamoontan replied: "Lexapro is amazing. Just give it some time or maybe see about upping your dosage. I was on 20mg and felt awesome."

nonnahs replied: "It's going to take a month or so for your body to get the full effect from this drug. Hang in there. I've taken it for a couple of years and it's been the best one so far. Check with any other family members to see what they may be taking. My grandmother, uncle, and brothers, all take the same thing. They say if it works for someone in your family it may work better for you. Also, you will still have to deal with some anxiety - thats life! Give it a bit longer, if not try something else."
