Paxil and teeth breakage? Has anyone experienced tooth breakage while on Paxil longterm(5+ years)?

rudenski replied: "Consider Oil Pulling to revitalize your gums and teeth How to swish oil Also consider you might be dehydrated Drink 5-8 glasses of distilled water with a pinch of unrefined sea salt. This will rehydrate and remineralize your body. Teeth and bones need minerals and clean water to stay healthy. Consider drinking rosemary tea mixed with gree tea(This is just a hunch)."

Has anyone taken Paxil and had this side effect? I started taking Paxil like 3 days ago and I am noticing that it is sometimes tightening up my jaw or making my chatter my teeth as if I were really cold. It doesn't bother me that much, just don't know if it is the drugs or me!

icewalk17 replied: "I have taken paxil before and it did nothing for me. However you can check the side effects and find other usefull information at webmd, I also took wellbutrin for a bit and it was worthless"

Tara J replied: "When I took Paxil in the immediate release form, I had problems of shakiness and anxiety. When I took Paxil again, I got Paxil CR and never had any problems like that. If this continues, ask your doctor if they can prescribe Paxil CR if that's not what you're already on. Since you're only 3 days in, I'm sure it will go away on it's own. It usually takes about a month for all the minor side effects to subside."

Beth replied: "Yes! I just started paxil a few days ago as well, and was worried about these same symptoms, as well as shakiness. If anyone knows whether or not it's something to be worried about, or if it'll stop, then please comment!"

Can you mix paxil and clandamycin? I'm on paxil and was precribed clandamycin for a tooth. I was wondering if it's alright to mix the 2. Thank you for your answers

RS replied: "It's best to check with a pharmacist or even the doctor who prescribed clandamycin to you. Most of us are not in the position to give you advice on medication"

Please help! Took three 10mg of adderall this morning, can't stop teeth grinding?!? Still feeling the effects, it's 11:20pm, took the pills at 7. What is going on! why isn't it going away? could this be related to my paxil (paroxetine 20mg) i take every day? aaahh i haven't eaten in over a day and i am not remotely hungry. and my legs won't stop jittering. when's it gonna go away?!

Gerard's Girl replied: "You need top check with your doctor about drug interaction. Call them right away. or at least the pharmacist."

Shannon H replied: "When yous top using Adderall. Call a doctor."

Elizabeth R replied: "Have you been smoking weed as well? I used to take twice that every day, with paxil in fact, and the only time I had issues was when I got high. Or have you been drinking a lot of caffeine today? That can do it too. Or are you not supposed to take adderall?"

Ian B replied: "Adderall is a tic enhancer. For example, I flinch the right side of my lip when I'm tired and I grind my teeth when I'm stressed, When I take adderall, it amplifies this. For instance, during midterm week, I would grind my jaw to the extent it was actually painful and not just uncomfortable. The non-hunger is a side effect of amphetamines, but the leg jittering means you took more than you need. You should feel calm, not jittery. You didn't say if you had a prescription or not or how much it was for so I can't help you any further there. But the teeth grinding normally occurs in higher doses, and the leg jittering means you took a little more than you need. For me, (I have a prescription), 40mg x 3 a day makes me grind my teeth, but doesn't make me jittery at all. It actually does the opposite and calms me down. If you have a prescription and have any further questions, feel free to email me (i4nb63@yahoo.com). If you don't have one, well use at your own risk. Just a note, I'm no doctor, just one with ADHD who knows my share of info."

Heather Feather replied: "These are all common side effects of Adderall. Depending whether you took XR or not, it will last about 6 hours (not XR) or 12 hours (XR). I would definitely recommend starting on a lower dose if you don't like these side effects. To help the appetite, there's not much you can do except force yourself to eat something with complex carbs that is nutritious (pizza seems to be an odd choice, but it's a choice many people I know use). Also, V8 Fusion is a great choice. Be careful because Adderall is known for weight loss and is easily abused for this. One of the side effects is anorexia. To help the legs jittering, do something physical if you're able such as go hiking, biking, or running. Something to tire out your legs (but be careful or your heart rate as Adderall raises it). To help the teeth grinding, chew gum. Or consciously relax your jaw (very hard to do!) so you try not to grind them. Take Aleve, Advil, or Tylenol as a preventative to headaches from teeth grinding. Chew ice cubes if needed or mints. I hope this helps!"

I'm a eunuch and I have strong nerve pain, RLS and lower back pain where it was broken once? I am currently taking 5 gm of testosteone daily 800mgs of Neurontin TID 20mg paxil daily Vicuprofen 7.5/200 BID Ibuprofen 600mg TID Flexeril 10mg TID I am still having breakthrough back pain when standing, or sitting. I also have phantom nerve pain where my testicles use to be and in my lower jaw where my teeth use to be. My liver functions are always elivated but I don't drink alcohol and I don't have HEP. I have a great Dr. and would like suggestions to know if my meds could be changed or added to to get rid of this pain. I think if I could, my mood would get better. I'm thinking about asking him for a MRI from the top of my head to the bottom of my tail bone to see if he can find the source. I'm only 40 but I feel like a 75 year old stiff with rigamortis. I don't know where to go next, I've searched all the word combinations I could think of on the web to no avail. What test can I ask my Dr. to do?

Chris C replied: "Paxil may be the cause of the liver issues, and you might want to ask about switching to an all day opioid instead of taking vicoprofen and ibuprofen all day (ibuprofen can also cause liver problems, but not as easily as acetaminophen.) If the nerve pain is not being managed with gabapentin, you might want to try switching to lyrica (pregabalin). This is a very similar chemical to gabapentin, but it is more potent. Good luck with everything, sounds like you have your hands full."

Is it dangerous if a puppy puts a pill in their mouth? We have two 6 lb miniature Yorkies. I take Paxil (20mg a day). About 5 days ago I'd dropped one and took the entire house apart trying to find it. Vacuumed, swept, dusted - over and over again. Came up short. About 5 minutes ago, I looked down on the rug near my feet and the pill was there, whole but with tiny teeth marks on it. My question is: Is there any chance that she (I know which one must have done this....she's SO sneaky) could have harmed herself by taking in any of that pill? I am worried! Thank you so much.

baby_7991 replied: "Well, you said 5 days ago, so ask yourself this: Is she looking healthy? Has she changed from her normal behavior? If not, then she should be ok. Keep a close eye on her though and make sure that she has enough water. If she shows any signs of being sick, rush her to the vet."

itssocial replied: "not as you described, but it may make her horny. you may want to consider taken up a hobby. think nothin of it."

Diana replied: "Well, since it happened 5 days ago, it's probably too late to do anything about it now. But in the future, if your dog were to ingest it, yes, it is toxic. Paxil is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, so it often causes serotonin syndrome. Overdoses can cause vomiting, anorexia, salivation, hypertension, tachycardia, tremors, seizures, etc. A Yorkie is pretty small and can easily over dose. The lethal dose is 80mg/kg. It also have a very long half life (20 hours) so it can stay in their system for a long time. Giving medications to prevent absorptions through the GI tract (activated charcoal), enemas, gastric lavage, supportive care with IV fluids, and appetite stimulants are used to treat these guys. If your dog is still okay, I think you were lucky. You may have noticed a lack of appetite due to serotonin syndrome."

Did I accidentally overdose on Paxil? I am prescribed 10mg of paroxetine per day for anxiety. (20mg if I feel like I need it.) But I read that the dose for depression is up to 60mg. I took 6 tablets a couple of days and had a weird reaction. My pupils got huge, I had a burning tingling in the back of my neck/top of head, teeth chattering, my vision was a little off, and some general anxiety. (Many symptoms were very similar to what I've experience when I've taken ecstasy in the past.) The next day I got very nauseaus and broke out in a cold sweat. The spell passed in about ten minutes, but it's two days later and my teeth are still chattering. I'm not sure what I need to do?

Emma's mommy replied: "You should go and see a doctor just to make sure you're okay. I've never taken Paxil but I am on Effexor XR for Depression and my regular dose was 300 MG and last Wednesday, I took 2400 MG of it and I ended up in a coma for three days. And when I woke up, I was in the intensive care unit at the hospital and they kept checking my pupils which they said were huge ..and it's always better to be safe than sorry, so try and see a doctor."

Possible ADD . . . where do I begin to find help? Let me tell you a little bit of history first . . . I am 30 year old female, happily married with two boys, 4 and 2 years old. I was classified as learning disabled since elementary school. I made good grades, A's and B's, but I would bs a lot to get by. I would have trouble concentrating and get in trouble at school for talking all the time. From junior high on I have been treated for depression and anxiety issues with Zoloft, Paxil, Wellbutrin and now Lexapro. I tend to have a very short temper and that just isn't okay when you have two small boys. I came across an article on adult ADD and it hit home to me. Short fuss, interrupt people, disorganized mind, never finish anything, takes a long time to do anything because I get distracted, grind teeth. Could I have been misdiagnosed my whole life? I called around to psychiatrists in the area but I can't get in to see anyone for 2 more months. Am I off track or could this be something? Do these symptoms sound familiar to anyone?

Dano replied: "Sound like ADD and you may also be tired alot that is also one ofthe many symtom there are over 27 different type of ADD, so it is hard for anyone other than a special to be able to know all of the systom off hand. Good luck"

diana d replied: "Hi Nezz, Indeed it does. May I suggest you look up Mental Health Ass. in the phone book and get help asp? You need help and it's not here, however they will guide you to what would be fit for your conditioning and if up to par a location. We can't be taking all these meds, maybe time for a Physiotherapist, more talk will work wonders, perhaps you do need some, but talking about r problems outweighs a pill. There are thing u must get off your chest that are eating u up inside that must be said. Good-Luck to You My Friend, Diana D"

shdema replied: "For one thing you are taking to many different meds for you depression, also depression has the similar symptoms,My son has ADD bad and I also had suffered with depression,so try to work on one thing at a time and don't claim the other and usually if the Paxil worked you might need to go back usuing it because it calms you down and it should help with your temper towards your children and examine your household and see if your truly happy. I wasn't so I had to find a way to make my self happy by moving out of State and made some chamges in my life>>Hope this help you by the way Yes: I know different meds works differently on different indiviuals, so what ever worked try it again>>"

Has anyone heard of constant music in the brain? Sometimes the music has words that have no meaning .? I hear this "music" 24 hours a day over and over again. It stems from noises made by equipment, i.e.normal sounds coming from the refrigerator, car engine, air conditioner, train whistles, anything that makes noise turns into musical notes. I suffer from long term situational depression and have been on paxil for years but this noise is driving me crazy. My hearing is excellent according to an ear specialist and I have had my teeth checked for cavities. It is not tinnitus, ringing of the ears, it is musical notes that my brain makes up words that have no meaning. I try to take the notes and make up songs to at least make sense of what I am hearing and may sing that song in my head for hours. Has anyone had a similar experience or knows what to do. My regular Dr. is sending me to a Psychiatrist and I am afraid of what the diagnosis will be. This has been going on for five months. Please help if you can.

byc0181 replied: "Sounds like you are having auditory illusions...which is the false perception of an external stimuli. This is a first as usually i hear about auditory HALLUCINATIONS (flase perception without an external stimuli). You may have delusional disorder, Major depressive disorder w/ psychotic symptoms, schizophrenia (which I I doubt b/c you are still functional), or may be side effects of the meds. Definitely get it chekced out by a psychiatrist for it could get worse."

doctorhelp replied: "Hi You are suffering from what is known as Psychotic Depression. It is a form of depression which is accompanied by Auditory and Visual Hallucinations. You do not have Schizophrenia because in that case you would not know that what you hear is true or not. In your case you are aware that what you hear does not truly exist. Do not be afraid of a psychiatrist. Psychotic Depression needs to be treated quickly or else it can worsen. You psychiatrist will prescribe medicines for both conditions the psychosis (voices you hear) and depression. You do not suffer from situational depression but Psychotic Depression. Please do not make the mistake of not visiting your psychiatrist as this can worsen your condition. Furthermore, if you need help with your depression feel free to contact me. Thank you."

justo replied: "Maybe it's a calling to become a musician."

bronzedaussie_19 replied: "I hear "music" sometimes, and my mum has on several occasions. You can hear the tune, but words are muffled. Scarily, i have recently discovered that whenever i turn on a tap, i can hear voices screaming at each other, however i believe it to be part and parcel of having PTSD rather than a form of schizophrenia. But don't worry, its quite normal!! From what I've been told, our brain stores snippets of audio, and sometimes visuals, and can randomly replay them to you, which can prove to be annoying and at times can be distressing. The only advice i can suggest is the minute the music starts find something to distract your mind, such as playing the "color game". In the room you are in, tell yourself that you need to find say, 5 things that are green. Really focus on finding those things and once you have, set yourself another task, for example.to find 4 red squares or a picture of a car. etc. If by 5 goes, the music is still there, wait half an hour and try again. oh, and a tip, i know its hard, but Don't think about the music, even when it goes, try not to think about it. This technique helps to distract the brain. Often as not your brain will forget what it was doing prior to the game and you will have peace, but if you remind it in any way, any progress made will be lost and you will have to start again. I use this same technique when i feel paranoid or angry. Its a slow process, but it in most cases it works! Another suggestion would be to try some relaxation. Sometimes these audio hallucinations are a result of an over stimuli in the brain caused by stress and/or a hyperactive mind. Taking time to calm your body and mind on a daily basis is very beneficial to your physical, mental and emotional health. Hope this helps! Cheers, Brittany"

What would you do if your child...? (6 y.o behavior problems) 6 y.o with severe behavior problems My son whom is diagnosed with a severe mood disorder has been acting up severely lately. Today he woke up at about 5. Went downstairs, cut up granpa's chair and made cut marks on table, crawling around grandma's house like a kitten while they were sleeping, threw grandpa's urinal on the bed while gram and grampa were sleeping, let dog outside and then ran outside after him across the street, threw his sister down a flight of wood stairs, smacked her, tried to put dog inside clothes dryer, tried biting sister, would not listen to our words, threw all the daycare toys over the fence. Was spitting on the kitchen floor even though I told him to stop... would not listen. Was squeezing the cat so tight it cried... Monica took the cat and put it in my room. He got real angry and tried to throw a metal combination lock at Tasia's head. I held his body... he was trying to get loose banging my ribs with his elbow, trying to bite me, scratching me, pinching me, licking me, rubbing his booger nose on me... his sister Monica tried to help me hold his body and he grabbed a handful of her hair... Then I had to help him control his body a second time because he threw dinner plates full of food off of the kitchen table when I told him to go in time out because he was hitting Tasia. Made him pick up the mess after... Then he bit his sister Tasia and pulled her skin with his teeth, and smacked her. Held his body again. He is diagnosed with mood disorder. His psych nurse needed to lower one of his meds because he was gaining too much weight. She also put him on Paxil for his anxiety attacks that he was having. I think his behaviors are related to these two situations... his med nurse will not change his meds again any time soon. He is six years old. He always chooses to pick on his sister whom is nine but smaller than him.

Margaret Andem LCSW replied: "I posted this before but will post it again. As a counselor, I have experience in working on behavior issues. Has he ever been hospitalized? You might want to consider psychiatric hospital given how unstable and violent he is, so that he can be stabilized and appropriately medicated in a controlled setting. He appears to be a clear danger to others and uncontrollable, so there should be no problem getting him in somewhere. It wouldn't have to be for the rest of his life, just to get him stable, which should be anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks. In a good facility, the staff will actively work with you and encourage regular visits and talk with you about what is needed once he leaves the facility. Also, consider an intensive outpatient therapeutic program. There are those that have counselors go to the school and home to work with the child, family, teachers, etc. Hope this helps."

C W replied: "It looks like you are on the right track by talking to his Dr. One thing you have to remember is your child is different than some so you have to be creative on the way you discipline him. You are doing the right thing by restraining him when he is acting violently. When he calms down is when you need to discipline him I would try taking his favorite toy away. Or not letting him do something that he really to do. I am by no means a therapist but that is what i am going to school for. I also would put a bell on his door of a night so you can hear him if he gets up. Make sure you put them on the doors that lead to the outside also. And as far as the animals I would do what ever you need to do to keep them away until the Dr. can get his meds. lined out. I don't know if any of this will help but I hope so. I'll be thinking about you."

cheerchick replied: "i am so so so sry i really have no advice i really am omg that's so horrible poor child and he probably does not know wat he is doing makes me wanna cry i'll pray for you good luck:)"

hidden_magick replied: "My friend has a kid like yours. How does he react when you punish him with removing priviledges? When my friend's kid acts up she takes away dessert or a video game etc until he is ready to act resposibly. If he's really bad she recently started making him write letters to apologize (my idea when I noticed the kid hated writing). She also takes him for mom/son time to talk to him about what he's doing wrong and how it affect him. He doesn't actually care what happens to other people so this usually works. However, I would also get at the med nurse or her supervisor about getting him to calm down. If he is this violent he should have something that will make him calmer. And make sure that all punishments are directly affecting him and what HE wants. Also... get the younger sister to plain avoid him or if she notices him watching her, which I've seen my friends kid do to his younger siblings before he picks on them, to move to the oldest sibling or a parent where he may think twice about acting out. Good luck with your son!"
