my friend is going to take lexapro to get high, what will happen to him? I read online its an anti depressant, also he told me the dosage, its 10mg. Will anything happen to him?

caylo2ooo replied: "i didnt think anti depressants will get you high on such a low dose, maybe they will."

C.P. replied: "he will die because it is an anti depressant. He will not get high just really really dead."

Leslie replied: "I take Lexapro for depression, as do my best friend and dghtr....none of us has been able to get high from it in 2 yrs. So he is barking up the wrong tree."

Lillian M replied: "Well, my now deceased 44 year old nephew was prescribed Lexapro for a number of conditions...Bi-Polar, Manic Depressive among others and he usally just fell to sleep after taking it & yes, it's an anti-depressant and it will most likely put him to sleep as well..though it could be dangerous for him to take and he may also become dependent on it and that's not good. Try to talk him out of it as it may be the beginning to ruining the rest of his lift. The best of luck to you."

Irock replied: "Absolutely nothing will happen to him, except he will prove he's a retard. Or yous a troll. Lexapro is an ineffective anti depressant at best."

How long does it take for lexapro to work and is this a high dose? So I was on 10mg.Luckily no side effects or weight gain but im still full of anxity.Ive stopped being as emotional, but very on edge.He raised my dose to 20mg.Im kind of nervous that the dose seems high.He said I have been on it 3 weeks and should have had it kick in by now.Anyone have any experience in this

phil replied: "it should have kickedd in by now its not that high of a dose give the higher dose some time to work he might need to change your med if it doesnt seem to do anything"

thisisjosh55 replied: "I am also on Lexapro 20 mg it takes about 3 to 4 weeks before you really start to notice the change in emotion. Lexapro does work you just have to give it time. You should also take it about the same time the night before that way you do not have the side effect of being tired or the hunger effect. if you have any questions feel free to e-mail me at"

Pico replied: "Obviously it's different for everyone but I can tell you what happened to me. I was put on 10mg and nothing happened at all. I was switched to 20mg after about 4-5 weeks. About 2 weeks later, I started to finally feel it and I felt a bit better but I was still suicidal, etc.. Basically, it took me about 7 weeks to feel anything at all from Lexapro! About 5 weeks after that, I was raised to 30mg because the 20mg wasn't doing enough for me. It's been about 2 months now that I've been on the 30mgs and it's working pretty well. I also take 1.5mg of Klonopin every day for my panic attacks. It still doesn't quite feel like enough and my psychiatrist said we can go up to 40mg of Lexapro if I want to but he said that's pretty much the maximum and he wanted to try adding something else instead. He did say that 30mg was a lot, but 20mg is 'average' and nothing to worry about. He said that I may want to try a different antidepressant if I have to go over 30mg of Lexapro. I was just put on 5mgs of Abilify (along wiht the Lexapro and Klonopin). It's a 'mood stabilizer' that may help with what the Lexapro isn't helping with. Eventually, we'll see if I can get off the Klonopin. I haven't had any side effects from the Lexapro at all."

alysha a replied: "It may take up to 6 weeks for SSRI antidepressants to fully kick in. 20mg is a normal dosage, and I think you are right where you should be. however, if the "on edge" feeling does not dissipate after 6 weeks, tell your doctor, and he may give you a mood stabilizer to ease those feelings which the anti-depressant is not taking care of."

Can the antidepressant lexapro get you high? On the lexapro bottle, it says may cause dizziness. I tried five, and got nothing. My question is, what amount is dangerous? And what amount makes you high?

Timelady replied: "No amount will get you high. You can just get serotonin toxic and die."

Lila replied: "There is no way that an antidepressant which Lexapro is can make you high. They are for biological disease, mental diseases that are like diabetes or heart disease. An antidepressant helps the brain chemical Serotonin do what it is supposed to do and that is to keep a person with depression on an even level never high. What you are doing is extremely dangerous you can od on these medications. No amount will ever make you high. And anything more than the prescribed dosage is dangerous."

maxie1982 replied: "I take this. It does not make you high. Sometimes I wish it did. It just makes you less sensitive. Kind of takes the edge off of your thoughts and feelings."

Bella replied: "dont try to get high off those, it wont work, you will probably make you sick.. try valume or xanyx bars! take one or two and you will feel great! or try somas, or norcos, or hydros! ask around, and you will find them from one of your friends i bet, take one -two, dont take more than three please thats when it gets dangerous. have fun!"

What is the effect of Lexapro on my high on pot? I smoke pot every day and I just started taking a 10 mg dose of lexapro I was wondering will the lexapro change my high or will it effect it in any way ?

Seein_Stars replied: "It could weaken the effect"

Lauren replied: "no there will be no negative side affects it just might make it feel better heres something interesting that i read online if u wanted 2know =] weed does not have any strong adverse interactions with lexapro, it does decrease its bio availability. thc is fat solluble and stays in fatty areas of the body for longer periods of time. believe it or not our brains are mainly fat, and the thc actually clogs the synapses, in effect slowing down the serotonin the your brain lexapro is supposed to make available."

Professor P. replied: "nothin good happens,i overdoesed on lexapro a while back and started having seizures and it fried my brain pretty bad. it was probably one of the worst desicions i've ever had."

Yahnswers Guru replied: "Hmm, the best thing is to stop smoking pot. I doubt that the pharmaceutical industry cares enough about drug addicts to do interference studies."

Is my son getting high off my lexapro? I noticed every once in awhile I've been missing some of my anxiety medication, lexapro. Is my son taking them or is it not possible to get high off of lexapro? Please help.

rejectedzipper replied: "Lock them up or keep them in your purse, sounds like SOMEBODY is dipping into your stash."

james w replied: "i doubt it. i took lexapro for a year. - you have to take it for 2-3 weeks for your body even to get used to it to start to have an effect on your anxiety and depression. - now thats not to say that he dosen't know that and is stealing them and thinks he can get high from it. when in truth taking a couple will do absolutly nothing for you expect giving you a headache and maybe dry mouth - but him taking one and here and there will nothing for him. and if it was me i would probably call him out and call him a mornon for taking an anti-depressant anti-anxiety med that will do nothing for him unless he takes it for month, and it will give him side effects like impotence and lack of sexual drive(hey thats why i stopped using it-common side effect)"

2ndchnc replied: "Yes it is very possible to get high on Lexa pro. It gives the non prescibing consumer a very mellow and calming feeling. Think about how it makes you feel when you take it,or maybe how you felt after the first time you took it. It is really worth investigating. Good luck and I pray for your wisdom and strength with this dilemma."

Liam W replied: "yeah, it's possible that he's getting a buzz off of it. Unfortunately, I knew classmates in high school who did that all the time, and no, taking it as if it were prescribed wouldn't do much, but a couple every now and then and not on a regular basis will have a mellow and high-like feeling with it. I would look in to it, and definitely lock it up or hide it if possible, or he might not stop regardless if he thinks you know."

Az R replied: "What on earth are some of these answerers talking about? Lexapro is an SSRI, like Prozac or Zoloft, it's utterly and completely impossible to get high of it, even in massive overdoses. Indeed, the results of major overdoses would be far more unpleasant than even some of the most ridiculous things kids try to get high off of. In short. It's not possible to get high off them under any circumstances, in any way shape or form. They have to be taken daily for several weeks on a proper dosing schedule for the effects to kick in. It will not produce euphoric or sleepiness like other anxiety medications such as Valium or Xanax."

Haylie replied: "he def is...get him some help!"

Myrtle replied: "Yes it possible to get high off of lexapro. I was given lexapro a year or so ago and first couple days I took it I was "high"..now this was caused by taking too much (I listened to my quack Dr.). My advice is to lock up the lexapro, it sounds like you son needs so help. I would talk to him and get him help before its too late. Yes, he will hate you for the first few days, but its better than having a dead son."

the ape man replied: "You cant get high off lexapro. As stated before its an SSRI takes at least 4-6 wks to take effect and is not a stimulant."

Had bad reaction to initial dose of Lexapro, blood pressure is still high after 8 days, does it go back down? I have had all the symptoms of serotonin syndrome from just one dose of the stuff. My normal bp is 110/70 and now it has been 140/90. This is very uncomfortable. Most of the other symptoms are gone, except for this and the tachycardia. It seems to slowly be getting better, but any advice from someone with Lexapro experience would be great. Hypertension is very uncomfortable, never thought I would get to experience this. Oh yeah, and the doctors told me that the symptoms I am experiencing are not possible. They really need to learn a little more. Not possible, more like Unlikely.

boo replied: "try another dr."

rukidding replied: "Just like a doctor, isn't it? Did he have a reason, then? I didn't have that kind of reaction, though I have been feeling a bit hyper recently. Maybe that's why; didn't consider it till now. I'm not sure what to tell ya. Ask the doctor what he thinks you ought to do since it seems to me that high blood pressure, whatever the reason, is not a good thing. Maybe there are other Lexapro-type meds on the market that he could switch you to. Eight days ought to be long enough for this to go away. Good luck."

Gail P replied: "My husband is on Lexapro, and he is fine, but if it is effectin gyou in such a way you should go to the ER at your hospital, or call your regular Doctor and get in to see him or her"

shrink_u replied: "Your blood pressure should normalize."

mathw01 replied: "I take Celexa, which is like a sister to Lexapro. Why are you taking it? I take mine for Anxiety. I remember how worried I was before I started taking it, I read all the possible side effects and let it sit for 2 weeks because i thought it would make me more anxious. This could be whats happening to you, you are manifesting a problem into the drug. I have now been taking this for almost 6 months, and I am soooo much better. Lots of exercise, and a healthy diet don't hurt either. Hope everything turns out O.K."

zoya replied: "I was going to say something similar to Matthew's answer. Is it possible that you would be having an anxiety attack over the meds? I would suggest seeing another doctor though. I had a terrible reaction to Xanex. It took me over 2 weeks to finally find a doctor that would listen to me and realize that my symptoms I was experiencing were very real to me. I had to seek out my own help though. My regular physician didn't help me at all. I would recommend that you see a nurse clinician or a psychiatrist right now. You don't need to feel this way."

crzygal replied: "I had a very similar problem with Lexapro and went to the ER. Only difference is that my blood pressure went to 190/118. They said that I was having a panic attack and gave me Xanax, which brought it to normal. Were you nervous about taking the meds? You probably gave yourself an anxiety attack and are still panicking about the meds. If your blood pressure doesn't get back to normal soon see your Doc., or better yet get a 2nd opinion."

mrbean_101 replied: "I wouldn't recommend popping pills for depression in the first place but if you must do so then you might want to minimise the hypertension as best you can without adding to the concoction of meds already being used. 140/90 isn't too bad actually, but what do I know about how it feels to you - not much. Here are a few links to stroll through, the natural remedies for HBP will no doubt also help you with your reason for taking Lexapro, good luck with it!"

what will happen if i take a 20mg lexapro and cut 1 in half and take another as ten making 30mg? i suffer from depression and mild anxiety and lexapro suits me but i would like a higher dose but it doesnt come any higher than 20mg should i take 1 20mg and cut 1 up which make 30mg?

stingray replied: "ask your doctor"

Kathleen replied: "I know that people taking lexapro for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder will take up to 30mg. And I believe they only come in 10 mg pills so you will have to do the cutting yourself. Pill cutters are fairly inexpensive at the drug store ($4 or so) and it will be worth it to get equal halves. I've been up to 20mg on lexapro, but eventually went back down due to a couple side effects that weren't worth it for me. If you are having unwanted side effects now, or after you increase to 30mg, it might be worth trying another drug in the same category... I imagine you will have to speak with your doc about this to up your dose, so he or she will be a valuable source of information. But because you are taking it for depression and anxiety (which 20mg usually does the trick for) they might be hesitant to up your dose. If they suggest switching medications, or adding a different kind on top of it, I would go for it. Also, if you are wanting to up the dose because of anxiety that hasn't decreased, you might consider taking Clonazepam or Propopanol as needed for anxiety. If you are wanting to up the dose for depression, you might consider getting a few counseling sessions. Hope that helps!"

Normal to feel "high" off of celexa, lexapro, or any other anti depressant? im on the generic celexa, an old version of lexapro. when i take it, i feel "high" just foggy head, drowsy, kinda get a headache, is it normal? i switched off cymbalta but the cymbalta never made me feel this way yeah i just got switched yesterday. im taking half a pill till saturday, which is 20mg, then switching to 40mg sunday

Tucker replied: "Yea, especially when you first start taking it. Lower your dose, or take some xanax or ativan. Ok you may also be having a interactoin you aren't supposed too switch abrubtly like that, you have too wait 2 weeks off the cymbalta before you can take the citalorpam. You have too much seritonin flowing than what your body is used too and it's a shock too your body, You need too take some ativan or xanax it will sedate you and slightly decrease your serotonin level. You feel 100% better."

seasalt replied: "A lot of times, these medicines do cause side effects similar to those. It may be a good idea to have your doctor switch you to a different medication. Sometimes a "high" feeling due to the medicine you're taking may simply mean that the dosage is too high. Talk to your doctor."

Dalton replied: "ya that should go away after a week or so"

Darren M replied: "Yeah it just the side effects"

shekillsangels replied: "Oh man, I felt so high off my meds one time - walked around a grocery store aimlessly with a big freaken grin on my face. Picked up more food than I could pay for. I had no idea what was going on! But I've gotten alot more used to it. :) That doesn't happen anymore."

John D replied: "A lot of meds can make you feel that way. Just stay happy bro."

Ginger replied: "I take Lexapro, and yeah, there were times when I began taking it, like in the 1st few weeks, I would feel kinda high. But it was nothing major. However I wish I felt that once in a while now. It fades away in the 1st couple weeks, that "sweet" feeling."

can you get high off of snorting lexapro? btw, i'm not interested in doing it. my friend said you could and i don't think you can. just cause i'm asking doesn't mean i'm going to do it.

Star_Dust replied: "no.u would be stupid"

Sarah replied: "Don't stick stuff up your nose! Do you realize you have one life, one body...and your damaging it. Whatever you're putting into your body that isn't natural and suppose to be there is going to make you age quicker, and become more stupid quicker. You wanna look like an old hag with your eyes caving in snorting lexapro, coke, and other stupid stuff by the time your 30?? Then go for it! You're sooo smart!"
