is anyone on trazodone hydrochloride? i have been getin treated for panic & anxiety for a while now and today my doctor has gave me 150mg trazodone hydrochloride because he says i am heading towards being depressed. I am a newly wed (1year) and have a happy life. is anybody on this medication??

Mathieu replied: "That is somewhat of an unusual choice for depression but I don't know your medical history. Trazodone is normally used for insomnia due to the sedating natures of the drug. It is technically an antidepressant but it has been almost completely replaced in that regard by other drugs. But due to its nonaddictive nature it is often a first choice for insomnia, particularly in people with a history of substance abuse. 150 mg is a sub therapeutic dose to provide any antidepressant actions. 150 mg is typically the maximum dose used for insomnia because doses above that tend to cause some stimulation due to the increase in serotonin and norepinephrine. If your doctor is going to use trazodone as an antidepressant he would need to increase the dose. It is a fine medication in certain circumstances, personally I do not believe it should be a first line sleeping medication. But like I said I don't know your medical history so I can't say what medication would be best. If you are already an antidepressants for anxiety (Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, Lexapro, Celexa, Cymbalta) then your doctor might be using trazodone as an adjacent drug to lower depression"

gangadharan nair replied: "Trazodone is used to treat depression."

Rhianna Returns replied: "Based on your short description, Trazodone sounds like an odd choice. Trazodone is used to manage depression, especially if the patient having issues with sleeping and loss of appetite. It is sometimes used to treat anxiety too. You need treatment for your anxiety, not further medication. Living with anxieties is probably a factor in your feeling depressed. Medication is never the answer to anxiety. CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) has a 70% success rate in curing anxieties and phobias. Give it a go. Ask your GP to refer you."

Trazodone Hydrochloride withdrawal symptoms? anyone? I have been taking trazodone hydrochloride 150mg for about 2 yrs but the medication was beginning to make me feel physically unwell. i told my psychiatrist's office to ask my doctor, and she said to cut the tablet in half, so a 75mg dosage, which i tried to take for a while, but it wasn't helping. they then told me to stop it completely and i haven't had any since last friday (it is now wednesday 12:40am) i have noticed I'm feeling 'skittish ' and i have been talking a lot more, but not all of it makes any sense, i'll ramble about alot of things, and most of the time i lose where i meant to be going in what i was saying. ive become a bit more forgetful as well. who else has felt bad after stopping their meds?. i know that my doctor is trying to get me a cancellation apt for this week , to start me on a new medication but I'm worried that its going to be another medication that makes me feel really crap for ages before it kicks in and then stops working. i stopped my medication on the advice of my psychiatrist, im not stupid enough to stop my medications on my own.

John replied: "my advice would be to stay off these medications. you can become dependent on them. The medical literature does not mention this but they can. phsyciatry is evil. I have been on zoloft for 71/2 years, and i cant come off"

lana s replied: "Did you do this without talking to your doctor who prescribed the drug to you? If so, you made a very big mistake. Haven’t you heard that antidepressants shouldn’t be stopped abruptly and that should always be tapered real slow. Although Trazadone doesn’t have potential for addiction and abuse, it may cause severe withdrawal effects. Some cases of withdrawal effects were seen with Trazadone even when tapered, so very slow tapering is advised for this drug. The problems you’re experiencing are the right ones (withdrawal effects I mean). Trazadone can cause both physical and psychological symptoms. Psychological include: agitation, crying spells, irritability, overactivity, aggression, memory problems, confusion, lowered mood, etc and physical may range from gastrointestinal to flu-like, sleeping disorders including both insomnia and possibly night mares or vivid dreams, sensory problems and motor disorders like tremor, loss of balance, muscle stiffness, and abnormal movements. Considering it’s been over a week, withdrawal symptoms could have subsided by now, however they may be prolonged considering how long and how much of the drug you have been taking. I would consult my doctor if I were you. Have you been taking it just for sleeping disorders or depression as well? Why did you quit? I take Desyrel for sleeping........"

does trazodone hydrochloride contain THC? or can it cause false positives on a drug test. i was just put on this medication for insomnia and the doctor said it had no risk of dependency but i tries it the other day and gave me the same effects as marijuana. i was a heavy smoker. and i went on google to find out if it contained delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol and some websites said yes others no. it sucks not being able to get a straight answer. i have thought about medical marijuana and i know it is less harmful and helped me more. but due to drug test i can not smoke anymore.

allo replied: "no it does not, but THC is way less harmful for you than trazodone."

A-Mirror replied: "http://www.erowid.org/pharms/trazodone/trazodone.shtml actual facts are written on this website. you can find any kind of drug you wish to find over here. you should talk to your doctor about medical marijuana, because its not as harmful as trazodone."

Dr tracy is here to help!! replied: "Nope totally differant drugs. Trazadone dont have thc in it. If it did my bf would be taking them more then smoking pot lol Trust me."

very fast heart rate ... 140 - 150 per min? trazodone? hi, im taking trazodone hydrochloride (anti depressent) (200mg). im a 25 year old female. slightly overweight, but have lost nearly a stone. when i got home from my night shift this morning, i took my meds (as i usually do), but about 5 mins later i felt really unwell. i felt sick, light headed and my heart felt like it was going to leap out my body. my pulse was irratic and irregular and was between 140 - 150 beats per min while resting. i called my doc and he told me to reduse the meds. he also told me that if it happens again, to phone 999. been on 100mg for about 7 months and 3 weeks ago it was increased to 200mg. could this just be a one off reaction to the meds? thanks. can it, never knew bls can cos that... thanks

shawn replied: "i took this med with the opposite affect it makes me sleepy ..you may want to ask if its anxiety..low blood sugar can cause rapid heart beat..if you didnt eat that morning"

tim m replied: "lose weight, eat less animal fat."

izzy replied: "You need to make an appointment to see your doctor Trazodone hydrochloride can cause excitement, agitation, tension, tachycardia (rapid heart beat), palpitations. Better not to stop taking it wtthout medical supervision, ok to reduce the dose. It was irresponsible of your doctor not to ask you to visit the surgery. Phone 999 is a bit of a cop out on his part. Go back to the 100mgs and make sure you see your GP. I should think about asking for a secon opinion or, better still, find a different and more responsible doctor. Read the leaflet in the pack for interactions and general advice."

Rhianna Returns replied: "This drug can cause tachycardia and also arrhythmia's. I'm not very happy with your Doctors suggestion to simply reduce the dose and see if it happens again. He should have at least done an ECG, it's also possible that your episode had nothing to do with the drug increase. Make an appointment to see him ASAP."

could my medication be the cause of weakening and damage of my teeth? the following are the medications i am taking, trazodone hydrochloride, seroquel quetiapine fumerate and sertraline, as my teeth were in good condition prior to taking them?

NetherlandHolly replied: "There are medications that can cause damage and weakness to the enamel of your teeth. The Cyclin family is the worlds worst for causing damage. Some asthma medications as well as other medications can cause issues. You can check with your Physician or Dentist for further information."

sippigrrrl replied: "Doubt it"
