Switching from Lipitor to Zocor generic? I am taking 20mg per day of Lipitor. What is the equivalent dose of generic Zocor?

Jess replied: "actually i think it is still 20mg"

jjgirl replied: "You should ask a pharmacist about the equivalency. Sorry. But I know that Zocor comes in 5, 10, 20, 40, and 80 mg tablets."

akihc09 replied: "It would be 40mg of zocor (simvastatin) 2 x10mgSimvastatin = 1x10mg Lipitor"

massimo replied: "I do believe you should be asking your doctor. And no body is qualified or authorized on this board to give you an answer to your question even if he or she is a doctor !"

Can I drink red wine and take generic Zocor? I've recently been placed on generic Zocor 40mg and really want to lower my cholesterol so I can get off of it. I've heard drinking a glass of wine a day will lower cholesterol, but I'm wary about mixing both? Has anyone else done this? What were your results?

Cootie replied: "I do not think it would hurt but you need to call your doctors and ask."

Sar replied: "simvastatin and the other cholesterol lowering drugs tend to be hard on the liver - as well as alcohol. It's really not a good idea to mix them without first talking to your doctor. More monitoring may be needed"

going from Lipitor to generic Zocor? My insurance will no longer pay for Lipitor, so I had to go on Zocor(generic). I was on 5mg of Lipitor and am now on 10mg of Zocor. They are 2 different drugs, so is that the equivalent? Or is there really no way to compare the two.

ridiculouslycurious replied: "some generics, such as zocor and lovastatin are really the same except that the mgs. need to be adjusted to be equivalent in strength. i recently went through this too. don't worry, unless you begin to feel side affects. some people are allergic to the different fillers/salts used by different manufacturers. otherwise, there's no difference. mfgrs. of generic drugs don't spend billions on advertising. that's why they can sell their products cheaper. even so, the mark up on generics is thievery in my opinion. did you know that you can get most generic drugs at walmart for four dollars for a one month supply?"

Bob S replied: "switching meds just to save money can be a nightmare. have you check the prices for generics online? Not sure what you are paying but I know I have been able to get some meds for much less online. Below is the link to the site I use. good luck"

Logan A replied: "I amusing generic Lipitor, I wouldn't want to switch these meds, have you talked to your doc about it? The site where I ordered my has both as much as I can see "

my doctor put me on lisinop/hctz 10-12 and zocor generic got very sick and had to go to emergency? they checked for stroke but the test came bk fine .soped zocor om my own but still have trouble with legs .labor so my doc not there but am stoping my other meds . till i see him has any one had that .or,anyone know what happend . tyvm

Dr. Spain replied: "Hello, What exactly do you mean by sick? Did you have difficulty breathing and a rash? A cough that wouldn't stop? Over severe muscle cramps, body aches and weakness? Lisinopril can cause something called angioedema, which is swelling usually of the lips, face, or tongue. If that is the case, you can never ever take it again or another ACE inhibitor in the future. HCTZ - has sulfa, (which rarely causes problems) and if you developed whelps, perhaps, it was from that. The Zocor can adversely affect your liver and damage your muscle enzymes making you very sore and oft times very weak. If that is the case, no more "Statins" for you.Sometimes your urine will turn very dark in association with this illness. Please feel free to contact me. Best of luck."

HK3738 replied: "swwitching from lipitor to zocor does not cause pulse and bp to go high, its the same chemical with a different name, good luck"

Has anyone found there to be a difference in the medication Zocor and its generic version Simvastatin? After switching from Zocor to the generic Simvastatin my cholesterol as well as my husband's seem to rise and we both have had some muscle related injuries. There could be other causes of course, but I'm wondering if others have seen any differences in the brand and generic. We get them via our health carrier's mail order plan. My doctor prefers I stick with the brand name since he doesn't have experience with the generic. My husband's doctor believes there's no difference.

ckm1956 replied: "I've been on the generic since it came out. No side effects, lipids unchanged."
