92 acura legend. How much do i put of the engine restore treatment? hey im back again. i have a 92 legend which handles beautifuly idles fine runs shift everything fine. the only problem is that i have a slap tap. mechanics told me it a sticky valve so alot of people are telling me change oil i just did that like a week ago and tap is still there. So now I have engine restore im curiouse would this fix problem? How much do i put? and can i add it now since i olready had a oil change?, please help...

jim bo replied: ". I don't understand the 'solution' you've been offered. IF the valves are 'sticky', that means they have some varnish or gum-residue stuff from burning the gas. In a tight engine, NO oil gets on the valve, except the stem area. Otherwise your engine burns Oil. IF the tappetts or lifters are sticky, ya, clean oil [with a can of 'restore'] might help. BUT that sticky varnish is VERY tough, especially of a 15-yr old car. The ONLY proper way to clean it is to tear the engine apart. $800+. Until you do that, just keep pumping in cans of valve AND tappett cleaner in the gas tank and oil pan. Read the instructions ON the cans."

i bought a 92 acura legend with blown head gasket should i replace the whole engine or repair gaskets only? i paid 1700.00 from a car auction. never got to drive car because gaskets were blown and the auction knew the car was junk and i am stuck with it. i cant get a refund.

F C replied: "Evidently you bought it "as is" at the auction. I'd just replace the head gasket; replacing or rebuilding the engine would cost more than the car's worth."

texcowboy712 replied: "get a used motor."

jujusemoon replied: "if the headgasket was blown it is most likely that it got overheated and that will cause the cylinder heads will warp,,, so you should replace the engine, you should find one for $400-700 depends on where you find it and the millage on the engine, try looking first, you can also try to replace the head gasket and see if you have luck and save a couple of $$$ if you can do it yourself.. good luck"

Jeff T replied: "from experiences, it's better to get a rebuilted engine. replacing the head gasket will last you six months to one year top. it may cost more, but well worth it."

sidecar0 replied: "Mileage? Did you go to the Pre-Auction Showing and Find out about the Car? How Long Since you Bought the Car? Honda's Engines are Really Strong, If there were more info. I might to be able to say! Does the Engine Crank? What Does the Engine Oil & Transmission Look & Smell Like? Did You Buy the Car for...........................?"

Is my 92 Acura Legend worth putting a new engine in? I just purchased the car, so I don't have a car note. In a few years, the car will be considered as a antique, so my tag price will be low. I love the car, but havn't had a chance to really drive it other than when I test drove it. When I test drove the car, nothing was wrong, but it needed a new radiator, according to the guy I purchased it from. After I purchaed the car, which was a week after I test drove it, the car had 30 extra miles on it, plus white smoke coming from the tail pipe. My mechanic said that I had a cracked head gasket, and needed a new engine. I know that Acura parts are expensive, and I have already called around and received quotes. I'm just trying to decide if me paying all this money now will end up costing me less in the long run. Plus I was told that Acuras are very low maintence cars and are great cars for females.

BMWSGOD replied: "Well you really don't need a new entire engine. Probably a replacement cylinder head. Acura parts are not REALLY expensive. If you keep saying that to mechanics they are going to charge you a lot. I think the person who sold the car to you knew it had a cracked head and pumped it full of "stop leak" and that's what clogged your radiator. Hows the heat? that might be clogged up with stop leak too. If the body of the car is straight (no dents) and the overall cosmetic and mechanical condition is good then yes fixing the car would be wise. If it is ugly and needs lots more work forget it. Acuras are very low maintence cars for a while but fall apart fast when they get old."

bundygil replied: "Rather than spend a heap of money on it get some metallic seal-up from your local parts store. Follow the instructions and good luck! Your mechanic won't like it as it does him out of business, but works great as long as you follow the instructions and clean the cooling system out thoroughly first. Also, get a new radiator fitted."

Maldavi replied: "Head gasket isn't that expensive. Might even need a new cylinder head, but even that's less expensive than a new engine. The real question is, "How long do I intend to drive this car?" If that's the only major problem (aside from other wear and tear) and you plan on driving the car for several years, then you only need to weigh the cost of repair against the cost of another car. It doesn't matter if a car is only worth $2000 and needs $2500 worth of repairs. Point is, can you get a better car for that $2500 and drive it for a few years? ;)"

I have a 92 Acura Legend and I was wondering what is the best oil to use? My 1992 Acura legend is my baby with 176,000 miles and I'm really trying to see what I can get out of it for performance. I'm working on putting in a new air intake and a new exhaust system but before that, I'm ready for an oil change... My friend told me to switch over to synthetic oil to help clean out the engine and get it running better. He told me to change the oil with synthetic for like 3 oil changes then continue with a synthetic blend. I'm willing to pay the money for it but should I switch over to full synthetic? If not, what should I use for performance? Thanks for your help! It's really appreciated! Well thanks for your answers... Yes it is a 92 and yes it does have 176k miles on it but its an engine that will last another 100k to 150k if taken care of well. The body is still in good condition so why not fix it up? I'm not asking for a racing beast or anything, just something where I can punch it and it has a really good kick to it... ALSO oil does make a huge difference in a car's performance... I'll stick with 5w-30 mobile 1

Bob S replied: "Usually 5W30 is good. Some companies make an oil for higher mileage cars. Synthetic isn't always good"

peanut23536 replied: "exactly what it calls for- 5w30 tricking out a car w/ 176K on it is just asking for trouble, even if it's an Acura. Synthetics won't make it run better. How would oil make it run better? Make it slippery? If it were that easy, all of the auto manufacturers would be using it."

jeff replied: "dont use synthetic oil because the engine have high milage and synthetic oil are way too think and will cause a oil leak. if it was my car i would just keep using the regular 10-30w oil or 5w-30w."

Kathy A replied: "you have a high mileage car and NOW want to trick it up...hahahahahaha...funny... manual says 5W30....use it or lose the engine."

man_with_koolaid_smile replied: "stick with 5/30 any brand will be fine synthetic is a waste of money oh that intake and exhaust is also a big waste of money too is a 92 with 170k"

desperate replied: "With high mileage on my car I use Havoline 10W-40."

How do change the spark plugs on an 92 acura legend? Theres no spark plug wires...? I'm trying to eliminate a "shake" i get from the engine sometimes at redlights. It just one little shutter about 1x per minute. It drives, revs, and accelerates fine. any other ideas? thanks

tronary replied: "maybe you got a diesel"

dodge man replied: "it probably is the plugs in it,that a common problem with those, the coil packs set on top of the plugs with a very short wire, good luck."

Do Santo File replied: "Pull hard. The bottom of the cap makes a vacuum over the top of the plug. Might help to rotate the cap 90 degrees. Once the screws are out and the wire is unclipped, it should pull straight out. How to actually remove it? Easy ! There is one ignition coil FOR EACH SPARK PLUG in this engine- six total You remove the two 10mm nuts holding each coil to the head cover, then the coils just lift right out. The spark plug is down in a well under its coil. You will see the top of the spark plug after that plug's coil is removed. There are three on each side. The drivers side may have a metal brace bar in the way. Unbolt this to get to the back coil and spark plug. Note that these are Platinum plugs and are not cheap. Use only the correct Acura recommended plugs. They are good for 60000 miles under normal use assuming the engine is in good shape. You need a standard deep-well spark plug socket tool to remove and install them. Caution: This engine has aluminum heads. DO NOT cross thread the plugs or you will have a big expensive problem. Also DO NOT remove them while engine is hot. You may want to blow out the dirt from the wells before taking the plugs out too, so nothing gets into the cylinders. Put a drop of oil or anti-seize on the threads of the new plugs. Makes them easier to get out next time."

Exquis8te07 replied: "you have a cracked Vacuum line some where that is not far gone yet but do to change in the temp and engine vacuum it comes and goes"

capaokas05 replied: "change the plugs by taking it to your mechanic he will know what to do get ngk platinums too"

92 acura legend .i have a very ''nit'' sound when my car is on? hi i have a 92 acura legend car drives like new but since im so picky with things i noticed a very low ''nit'' sound when car is running. im not sure if it could be from one of he belts or valves. i guess im use to a very quiet engine so it could be nothing? let me know what you think. a light ticking. i just checked its kinda low on oil. could it be a leak?

Phillip S replied: "What is a "nit" sound? V-belts make a squeeling noise when too tight. Valves make a "ticking" noise when too loose."

Kathy A replied: "did you look for rocks in your tires ??? leaves in your ac intake ???"

92 acura legend ( ticking noise)? hi i have a 92 acura legend handles and drives like new. it has 120k miles on it just had motor flush and oil changed. Butg i noticed every now and then im getting a tick ''tick tick tick'' sound from engine area, which doesnt affect performance. I didnt think it was a valve or nothing major becomes the sound comes and goes. what do you think that could be?

Valerie replied: "Have you checked your timing chain? That's what happened to my car the last time it was ticking. I would get it checked out because otherwise it can be a costly repair."

infoman89032 replied: "might be a lifter which for that many miles sounds about right could be fix take it in and have someone listen to it"

What would you pay for an 92' Acura Legend? Serious Answers ONLY!!!? I am looking to buy a new car but would like to find out how much my car is worth, so I can decide whether I want to sell it or trade it in! I have had this car completley re-furbished! The new engine NOW only has around 60,000 miles on it. The car's body has about 187,000 miles on it but EVERYTHING under the hood has been replaced except for the tranny and it is in top notch condition! The Air condition and heat does not work, however if you know anything about Japanese cars you would know that in a few years this will be a classic.....I just don't want to wait any longer! HELP

trydave1ce replied: "Considering replacement parts for it cost an arm and a leg you might get a grand, trade in maybe 1500 tops! I personally wouldnt give you 500. Make that 300 if the heater doesnt work, collector? I highly doubt it!"

Sunshine replied: "Hate to say it, but expect about $1000....trade in that is.... You may have to insist. You could probably push them to $1500, but you will have to come in saying that you want $3000 for it, and let them work you down to $1500.....I know you love the car, but thats the truth of the matter."

wazup1971 replied: "Maybe 500 but I wouldn't buy a car that probably has been raced."
