Motorcycles jacket- FirstGear or Joe Rocket? I've never bought a motorcycle jacket before, even though I've been riding about 10 years. I can't try on the sizes or anything because no place carrys them, so I have to order and send back if I don't like it (6'9" 325 lb doesnt make for easy clothes ordering). They are the same price- firstgear is mesh, joe rocket is not. Not sure which is going to be more comfortable/offer better protection? Any ideas? Its the firstgear mesh-tex jacket and the Joe Rocket Suzuki Fuel jacket. Thanks!

mauisunset replied: "Both are great brands - i have a First Gear leather jacket that is heavy duty but probably is not what you're looking at. I'd suggest do web keyword search for the brand and style jacket you want to know about. I did that for "joe rocket suzuki fuel review" and got a couple hits."

Heavy_Cavalry_Sgt replied: "Hi - I have had both First Gear and Joe Rocket jackets and been very happy with both brands. My first generation Kilimanjaro jacket lasted 5 years (and well over 65k miles) before the material started to break down a little around the fold points in the wrist, otherwise the jacket is still solid. My Joe Rocket jacket is mesh, and the build quality isn't quite as good but it is still a good deal for the money. Mesh is more comfortable if you ride where it is hot, but isn't as great about abrasion resistance. It is also specialized to warm weather riding. If you're going on a trip where you will see cold and hot weather you may need to bring two jackets, or at least the mesh jacket's liner and maybe a rain suit to help block the wind. Both the jackets you're talking about are good jackets. You might also look at Tour Master's 4 season jackets. They have removable outer panels that convert the jacket to a mesh shell (with the armor still in place) when you remove it. Inside there is a wind resistant liner and a thermal liner that you can wear in whatever combination is appropriate. Other manufacturers are getting on board with that but I have no direct experience with their gear. I love my Tour Master, and it replaces two other jackets for me."

how do i know my size in motorcycle riding jackets? im trying to get the suzuki joe rocket jacket...

4wheeler nut replied: "I bought a icon coat and found that it was a size bigger thatn I ussually wear. Like from a 50 to a 52 long in coat size. My buddy bought a joe rocket coat and it was the same thing go one size bigger."

Bob B replied: "Just go to a store and try them on and find one that you like and fit well in, Then go home and buy it off the internet for a much better price."

ben b replied: "i would DEFINATLY recommend trying one on first, they are really tricky finding one that fits you good, if youre going to buy one online that fine, just go to a local shop and try on one of their's to get a size"

C R replied: "get a tape measure and place the tip in the middle of your chest and go under your armpits. until the tape overlaps. then get it some slack then take the measurements. I wear a 44 inches large. its basically like a suit. it should be as little tight but not a wet suit."

Ride on replied: "If you ride in cold weather be sure to get a size larger so you are able to fit a couple layers under it. It sucks to be squashed all day."

Low_Jac replied: "Go get fitted at a motorcycle shop. Then you can buy one online."

KP replied: "you need to try on. If you buy the leather jacket. Pick the one fit you perfect, because the leather will stretch out later on."

Haley D replied: "Lay on the floor on top of a big piece of cardboard, have your little brother trace the outline of the upper half of your body( excluding your head which is obviously useless anyway) Cut out the tracing and take it to a Suzuki shop and hold it up to the jackets and look for a match. Certainly trying a jacket for fit and reading the size label would be pure insanity. And be sure NOT to leave any room for heavy undershirts for cold weather riding."

Bob replied: "It's based on your chest measurement which Cr explained. How else can you get an accurate measurement without doing this? The New Enough web site has a sizing guide to help. Hey Haley, I make a life size model of myself from clay. I put the jacket on that. Works perfect every time. Much more accurate than the cardboard. lol!!!"

will a black and grey joe rocket jacket bother me in the summer?? the jacket i want is black and grey, but i afraid to buy it now and suffer in the summer. what do you think i should do?? here is a pic of the jacket, its the top one.. >
magley64, magz™ if ya *scoff* replied: "no, joe rockets are very well constructed, and contain good ventilation for summer riding..."

midge1411 replied: "Nope... I ride all over, year round in my black n grey jacket. Never had a problem in my all black leathers either, apart from being cold once but that was my fault."

Captain Awesome replied: "How many times are you going to post this question? Any jacket is going to bother you in the summer time, assuming that it's as hot where you live as it is in Washington DC."

VTR replied: "Just get the jacket and ride"

coyotee replied: "if your actually riding your motorcycle, youll be just fine. if your planning on standing next to your bike, and "posing".. it may get a little warm."

dreynolds699 replied: "Joe Rocket Jackets are good for year round that is what brand I currently wear during winter and the summer it's not bad when your moving but can get a little hot at stop lights during the summer months"

Jay P replied: "As long as you're moving, you're fine. It's when you get stuck in a traffic jam on a hot and humid day ( combined with the heat from the surrounding cars as well as the heat being absorbed and released by the concrete or asphalt ) that you really start cooking. At that point, however, it doesn't matter what you're wearing...you'll be roasting anyway."

ninebadthings replied: "I have a black mesh jacket for summer, works fine."

GJ289FIA replied: "The mesh jacket may be uncomfortable when you're not moving, but I can get by with one in south TX, so you should be just fine in most areas. . . . and keep in mind that however uncomfortable it may feel, it's even more uncomfortable regrowing your hide after a spill on asphalt with no protection."
