What car engines can iI fit under the hood of my 1989 nissan 240sx? What car engines should work?

Sion replied: "Why would you change the engine on one of them man. Give it a few performance upgrades, and it'll beat most cars on the road. But with a big of work, you can stick a V8 in em. Maybe RB25/26 too."

tricky replied: "most people stick with the KA24 which is a strong engine and a turbo kit can be added others go for. RB20det RB25det Rb26dett SR20DET CA18DET Other more recent tuners use VQ series of engines.Other conversions are the RB30 engine. Personal choice to the individual some people like going for the V8 but the Muscle to tuner cross over often causes arguments so more recent V8 engines come from Japanese made models. "

John Paul replied: "1 street racer? 1989 is twenty one years old so think about what you really want to do with that car. LS-1 or LS-2 GM motors the aluminum motor makes 400hp and 400 ft lbs torque. with a Tremec 6 speed manual that is enough power to break your differential. LS-2 is a good Choice because it does not weigh much more that the 145 hp motor already in the car. On premium fuel runs smooth and produces easily 3 times more power. An old carburetor 350 GM motor will also work. 4 years your car may not have to have emissions testing."

The boosted one replied: "There are a plethora of engines that can fit in your 240SX. Most of them have been listed. The LSx series engines are becoming quite popular along with the VH45 in the V8 line up. The VG/VQ30DETT is another one that has been done, Honda S2000 motor, Toyota 1JZ and 2JZ as well. You can swap in just about any motor you want provided you have the money, tools, know-how, time and patience. Or you can just find a shop that specializes in swaps into the S chassis and spend some extra cash to make sure it's done right. Do your research on places you are considering swapping your engine if you go that route. You can check the Hybrid forums of to see what a lot of other 240SX owners are swapping into their cars."

Postman replied: "One of the best things about the 240SX is all the choices you have! You can make a monster out of it. I've seen 450+whp KA24DE's. You also have the ever popular SR20DET swap. There are conversion kits to fit RB25/26/30DET's into them. There are even kits to drop GM's LSX engines in! You could of course go the route I did and do a completely custom job. I put a VG30ET from a Z31 300ZX into my 92 240SX. It required a bit of work but the final product was worth every bit of the hassle. No matter what you do, you can't really go wrong."

Hello Darling replied: "Any thing lol Iv seen ls1's in them"

Cole R replied: "ok. Here is a straight up answer. sr20det---easiest and cheapest, but great engine rb25det, rb20det, rb26det----great engines, expensive, and harder to install ls1--------ive seen them but really hard to install"

if i get a Origin 95-96 Nissan 240SX Aggressive full body kit do i need to buy a hood an head lights too? its a 240sx nissan with a Origin 95-96 Nissan 240SX Aggressive full body kits i dont want to buy it then have it not fit.

Smokey replied: "if you have a 95 240sx "zenki" model and that kit is made for a zenki "the rectanglur headlights" it shouldn't have problem fitting. Your pretty new to this im going to tell you sign up at: ask question on the forum there because there are alot of pros that knows what they are doing."

can you put a V6 engine in a 1990 nissan 240sx. with a turbo and all that goodness under the hood? not only can it fit but will i be able to have a little room after words for everything.

tricky replied: "I have seen the vg30dett engines fitted into the sx. In fact found this. "

AS replied: "Realistically, no it cannot be done feasibly. It has been done, as the answerer above me linked, but that is a one-off project car done for the reason of being different. Read through that link to the end, and notice what a nightmare it turned into. It is one thing to physically fit the engine into the car. However, to get it running reliably is a different story altogether. Honestly, if you are asking this question then I guarantee that you will be more than satisfied with an SR20DET swap from the Japanese version of your car. 200+ horspower in that car really wakes it up, and there are tons of tuning and modification options when you want to upgrade. Also, this swap is about as easy as they come, with a lot of information, parts sources, and even wiring conversion kits on the market. If you want to go for broke, your best bet is to get an RB25DET out of the middle-range Skylines. It is a 2.5 liter inline-6 engine with a lot of research and development put into modifying it. Edit: I know it is tempting to think "Hey, the Nissan 240SX is their intro-level sports car, and the 300ZX is Nissan's upper level sports car, so can I just put the engine from the larger one into the smaller one?" But, if it were that easy, then it would have been done by now and would be a common project. The fact that you don't see much information about it online is a testament to what a poor idea this is."

ZEEthirtyTWO replied: "I've seen a local guy with a s13 with a VQ motor out of a G35/350Z."

Does anyone know where I can download the fuse diagram (under the hood fuse box) for a 1996 Nissan 240SX? This is the fuse box located under the hood (passenger side) It would be the sticker (normally) located on the box that tells which fuse goes where. A picture, a map, a schematic, links or advise where to find this would be appreciated. Please help! Thank you.

turbos14drift replied: "This will tell you the fuses and relays both under the hood and inside plus it give you the whole Factory service manual for any other info you may need for your car in the future. "

Martin Chemnitz replied: "I would suggest checking out the 240SX/Silvia Technical or General section at Their 240 section is par none."

How do I change the front side marker lights in a 98 Nissan 240sx? My owners manual gives instructions for all lights but these. There are no screws in the lenses and no apparent access from under the hood or from the bottom.

threed240 replied: "You can access from the bottom, but you need to take the inner-fender lining out first. There should be 2 screws on the back of the light. The bulb just twists out along with the harness."

Please help, I have a 1996 Nissan 240sx that won't start.? Hi, I have a 1996 Nissan 240sx that stalled going down the road. I took it to a local garage that works on foreign cars, they said the motor was gone prior to popping the hood. Today they called back and said that the car has no compression in any of the 4 cylinders and I should sell it for use in drifting... The Nissan dealership is located too far away to take my car to. Can someone give me an idea of what may be the problem? One cam is turning and the other one was blocked so I couldn't see it, the car has never smoked, has oil in it, and only 100,000 miles.

opjames replied: "Get a second opinon if possible. I realize that you will have to have it towed, but it may be worth it. I had a car act the same way and all it was was bad plug wires. If the second garage says the same thing, then I guess you are screwed, but you could sell the body to someone."

defbizkit99 replied: "That definately sounds fishy dude. See if you can do a compression check yourself, or have them do it in front of you. Very strange to lose compression in all 4 cylinders at the same time."

gtcooliebaixxx replied: "puse it off a ciff"

John Paul replied: "Please remove the valve cover and look at top dead center and cam marks. That 2.4 engine is a rock and almost never looses all the cyls at the same time. I'm a Nissan Master Tech, Do not trust the first Mechanic get a second opinion. Even far away Nissan technicians like working on Nissan cars"

jdep091_98 replied: "You may have some sort of valve leakage. Check all of your pressure settings. Definitely get a second opinion. The towing cost will be worth your while."

Craig H replied: "If your timing belt breaks you won't have compression anywhere that the valve is open. In your case it most likely jumped a notch or two but is still turning both cams. Your mechanic sounds like he wants to get your car for nothing or doesn't want to work on it. 100k is no mileage for this engine. First, if the compression was that bad you wouldn't have gotten the car started or if it did it would have smoked so badly you couldn't have seen to drive it. Second, It would have been using a lot of oil as the oil is what seals between rings and cylinder walls to give the max compression to make the car run as well as lubricate. Now approach it from a common sense realm. If the cam is still turning you are doing well. It probably jumped time by a notch which will put the cams and crank all out of time with each other. If each cam went out a little the valves will stay open a little when the pistons are on TDC or top dead center in firing position. That means no compression and no start. Then when it turns enough for the valves to close you are off the compression stroke on the crank and the piston is going back down to repeat another stroke. What does this mean? Still, no compression. Any backyard mechanic or mechanic want to be shoud have known this when they checked your car. My suggestion is get your car from there while you still have anything left to fix. If these morons are that bad I wouldn't let them add windshield washer fluid to my car."

Does Anyone know how hard or if its possible to put Skyline R33 Front end on Nissan 240sx s13 92 hatchback. Does Anyone know how hard or if its possible to put Skyline R33 Front end on Nissan 240sx s13 92 hatchback. I have a complete front end of Nissan Skyline R33 rb25det 1998. I already have the bumper cover, bumper reinforment, fog light, siginal light, left/right fenders, headlight, hood, grill. I was wondering if this is possible for out any fab. OR change the core support. do i need some brackets? Have anyone done this before?

ZEE replied: "it would be possible....but it would be really difficult!!!"

TOEKNEE! replied: "Its possible! There will be some modifications on the 240sx frame but nothing major! Make sure the bolts on the front grill and headlights will fit snug and line up smooth! You will need some brackets for the front lights and grill! I have shops that work on my SILVIA that are good at that type of conversion in LA, CA! It will be a great look... keep it up!"

What Cars comes stock with a Nissan Twin Cam 16 Valve Engine? Hello I bought a 1993 Nissan 240sx Fast Back. I realized that when I poped the hood of the car it wasnt the stock engine. Its came with Nissan Twin Cam 16 Valve Engine. 70k on new engine stated by the seller. I was wondering if anyone knew what car this engine came off of. THANKS again.

dbrunning_2000 replied: "Hi, This engine is probably out of a Nissan sunny sx coupe. Not sure if its called that in the states but am assuming your in England. It may also have come from a 100nx or a later Bluebird or early primera. Problem is Nissan engines are pretty interchangeable accross the range."

Planning to remove the LT1 from my 93 Z28 through the hood, what needs to be done? There aren't any manuals out there that instruct on how to remove it through the hood, just through the bottom. I've swapped motors and clutches in a 93 Nissan 240sx before, so I "sort of" know what I'm doing. Someone told me something from the suspension needs to be removed, the radiator, the plastic cowl piece below the windshield, and obviously the transmission. Does anything else need to be removed, and do any of these things need to be taken out some special way I'm not aware of (other than the lines attached to the motor)? I know the gas line needs to be de-pressurized before removing it, and drain all the coolant / oil obviously before disconnecting all those lines. Anything else?

mopar power replied: "Haynes manual at your auto store for around $20 or remome the hood 1st, undo everything, hoses, wires, ece.Un bolt the tranny, take and unbolt the motor mounts.shoot there is really nothing to it,i'm assuming you have a cherry picker, atach the chain to top of engine at lift points and carefully lift the engine,if it start to lift car with it something is still conected, but remember it may just look like it's lifting the car cause you're removing weight so take your time and have a buddy give you a hand,it should take 2 to 3 hours tops,by taking your time and paying attention."

Country Boy replied: "Re-think your plan. The motor and engine cradle comes out from the bottom and without a lift you are in for a long afternoon."

Nissan 240sx Air conditioning Problem? My compressor engages fine in the morning and at night or when it is cool outside. But when it gets hot outside it takes a long time for it to come on, and when it finally kicks on it seems to stay on as long as it is cool inside the car. I have already had it serviced with freon so I know that's not the problem. I believe the problem must be comming from inside the car and not under the hood. When I get to work in the morning after driving 30 miles I test my AC and the compressor still kicks on immediately after the engine is hot. So the problem must be inside the cab?

inmytree replied: "You say you had it serviced. Did they check for leaks or just fill it up and send you on your way? If so, you should have someone check for leaks. Perhaps your a/c condenser has a leak."

ucantcme replied: "IF THE SERVICING A/C REPAIR SHOP THAT SPECIALIZES IN A/C SERVICED IT OUT CORRECTLY THEN I WOULD SUSPECT THAT YOU POSSIBLY HAVE A BAD CLUTCH COIL THAT IS HEATING UP CAUSING THIS PROBLEM."
