I have 2003 Mitsubishi Montero and for last 2 weeks, I am getting "Service Engine Soon" light on. I went to Autozone to run a free diagnostic check and found out that I need a O2 Sensor OEM Brand: OBDII (Bank 2 Sensor 2). I would like to order it online and then get it fixed by an outside mechanic rather than have Autozone order which would cost me more than $300. Could anyone suggest a good website where I can order this part? I would appreciate anyone helping me in this sitaution. Thanks.

alvarz replied: "just about anytime a code shows up on a scanner the o2 sensor also shows a code. this is because the o2 sensor is at the ass end of the car and anything and everything affect its operation. but it does not mean there is anything wrong with it. And cars are different. sometimes these things show a code after so many miles because it reminds you to get an oil change. Did the fella at Autozone clear the codes for you?? And if he did ,,,did the lite com back on again??? And when he ''scanned'' your car,,,what were ALL the code NUMBERS ??"

hemicuda_573 replied: "Alvarez makes a lot of good points. Autozone just wants to sell parts however. They quite turning off the check engine lights however because they were costing shops money in diagnostic time and then shops didn't buy parts form them. O2 sensors can set a code and it just be a clitch. Also it could be a sign of other problems, then you change the O2 sensor and you really needed an induction service or a tune up. It all depends on the code for the O2 sensor. A lean or rich code may have just been a temporary condition the engine went through for one reason or another and it caused it to run rich or lean for a brief moment and the O2 picked it up. If it's an O2 heater code then all you can do is replace it. I would see if you can get the light turned off one time and drive it and see if it comes back on. Also, you could have a catalytic converter problem because that O2 sensor is after the Cat. If you need the sensor. The left side is $218 or more the right side is $115 or so. I'm assuming based on what you said it must be the left side according to autozone but see this is why I don't like Autozone selling parts by checking your vehicle instead of a mechanic checking it because Bank 2 Sensor 2 is usually the right side........not the expensive left side."

Service Engine Soon Light? I have a 02 Mitsubishi Montero with 97611 miles on it. The sevice engine light came on recently. No engine problems that I can tell. Any suggestions?

greenie replied: "Yes. Place the tip of a #2 phillips head screwdriver directly over the center of the check engine light. Give it one or two sharp hits with a 3-pound hammer. Yiou won't have any further problems with it."

truly speaking replied: "go to your local auto zone or advance auto parts and they'll check it for free and tell you what the problem is. it could be something simple like your gas cap may not be tight enough which you can check yourself or it could be an oxygen sensor which is usually the main cause of an engine light coming ion."

Spooled replied: "Take it to Autozone or Pep Boys, Or Orielys or whatever your local parts store is. Ask them to read the engine codes. They'll do that for free and it takes less than 5 minutes. That will tell you what's wrong, and they can also clear the code if you want them to."

B D replied: "1. Make sure your gas cap is tight. 2. Bring your car to autozone or other local auto parts store, they will hook up a DDT to check the code. With those miles, could be a misfire, O2 sensor, etc."

Bumbles replied: "Goto your local auto store and have them scan your computer for codes.... there is a code stored there, only the OBDII scanner can erase the code. It is probably a sensor...."

ucantcme replied: "I can only say that you should get the vehicles computer scanned and check for any problems as well as codes and then you will have a good idea on what the problem truly is."

camaroz replied: "go to autozone and ask them for a diagnostic, if nothing is wrong ask them to reset the computer. Also try disconnecting the battery terminal for a few min. then hookin it back up it worked for me"

catchmeha replied: "I don't kwon"

latoya h replied: "check it out"

Edward J replied: "Put it on a diagnostic machine. Easiest way to tell what's up."

What does "Service ENGINE SOON" light means? Hey everyone, I need help, and it's about my car. I'm not good with my cars, so I decided to ask someone on Yahoo! Answers (which some of ya'll might be good at it). I have a 2000 Montero Sport Mitsubishi SUV. I gotten into an accident about 4 to 5 weeks ago. I didn't get it fix or anything, it's still drivable. Yesterday afternoon I took it for a drive, and I noticed that a light was on, and it said "SERVICE ENGINE SOON, or it could of been ENGINE SERVICE SOON" it's one of those, but I was hoping if anyone can help me with this situation. I hope my engine isn't that messed up. Please help me, and thank you so much.

alfredb1979 replied: "It's time for a shop visit to diagnose the trouble codes stored in the engine computer and make proper repairs."

CDUB replied: "take it to a shop"

Robert M replied: "In the accident, the O2 sensor may have been damaged. It is located inside the exhaust system. A code check should reveal this. Open your hood, and see if the wiring harness to the O2 sensor was pinched, or something. You should Clean your throttle body and idle air control valve. good Luck!!"

dmarie1965 replied: "could be a lot of things but get it checked might be a small hole in radiator"

Jason W replied: "Don't take it to the shop, they'll charge you. Take it to Auto Zone, they hook it up to their machine and get the codes for free so that way you'll know what you need to get fixed."

LeAnne replied: "The service engine light means that the computer has received an input which is out of range or missing. It will set a default code in the computer which can be retrieved and the problem is often pinpointed to a specific component which then can be tested."

cookiesmom replied: "could be anything ~a tune up, oil change.......take it to the shop"

Steve S replied: "you should take the car to a garage to have it scaned.they will be able to tell you why the engine light is on.Its possible the accident may have something to do with it."

hammerhead300 replied: "Take it to an automotive parts/service place and ask them if they can scan the codes on your vehicle's computer. They should be able to determine what's tripping the SES light and what needs to be done to fix it."

babydoll86 replied: "It means to go and get your engine checked, since it may be a problem. The shop can diagnose the specific problem and take care of it for you."

bobweb replied: "http://www.samarins.com/diagnose/checkengine.html "

bandit_60 replied: "just like it says. the engine needs to be serviced."
