1995 subaru wrx will not start help me plz? my car has been running crap for the last few weeks like it was misfireing. so i parked it up and went to start it today but the battery was dead. so i put jump leads on and went to start it she started for about 5secs and cut out but while it was started i couldnt touch the accelarator or it would of cut out. i could just tell by the way it was running just want to know if its down to plugs or could be somthing else thanks

Matthew J replied: "I might clean the ICV (idle control valve) located in the throttle body. This valve is what controls the amount of fuel going into the car to keep it running. Go buy some cleaner at the auto store (throttle body cleaner). Hope this helps - matt"

Les B replied: "Not plugs. The computer is shutting th motor off. It could be the idle control relay."

Robert M replied: "The accelerator is really the "air" pedal on fuel injected cars. Open your hood and look for manifold or vacuum leaks. This is a TURBO car, isn't it?? Make sure that your Turbo boot is not torn or hasn't disconnected itself from pressure. Also, have you had your timing belt changed??? The tensioner on many Japanese cars is hydraulic (oil pressure) operated. If you have benn using bargain oil or conventional oil, you may have lifter and tensioner problems. Remove your timing belt cover (read your manual) and check the timing belt. Eventually (if you haven't yet) de-sludge the engine and switch to a nice synthetic (Mobil One or Pennzoil Platinum). It will protect your turbo and expensive valve train components. If and when you get the car running, go to a do-it-yourself car wash and clean the engine to showroom-like condition. This will make sure that the sensors and harnesses are clean and not corroded. Also, make sure that your battery and cable connections are totally clean. Good Luck!!"

Mike M. replied: "Can you remember when it was last tuned up? It needs it every 25000-30,000 miles because the spark plugs burn up and get dirty. They will make your car run poorly. Also, the spark plug wires get cooked and need replacing. If you can't remember when it was last tuned up, that should come first, as there are very few other things to wear out on an engine these days. You are changing the oil every 3,000 miles, right? That will affect performance, too. My Honda ran 240,000 miles without needing any engine adjustments other than a regular tuneup and changing the timing belt every 60k miles. My Subaru did about the same. It probably just needs newe plugs and wires. I thought my Tercel was dying, and that's all it needed."

my boyf subaru wrx impreza wont start?? we've tried jump starting it, also checked the fuses which are ok,? does anybody know which relay is the fuel relay, or any suggestion what it could be, its been working fine, thought it might of been just the cold weather, but i've let it thaw out still not starting ?????????? help please anybody

John G replied: "you cant start toy cars"

Jason P replied: "Try putting a new battery in the car i have struck this be for. you can jump from another vehicle but still isn't enough charge to run all the electrics. Or you could try charging the battery that is in the car for a couple of days."

Somethingtotry replied: "More than likely it is the battery. Sometimes if a battery is totally dead, it will not work even with a jump start. I've seen that happen many times. I would try a new battery first, particularly if the one in the car is 3 years old or more."

james u replied: "clogged fuel filter, bad plugs, air filter dirty? check all the simple things that make a engine run."

mangamaniaciam replied: "First off, you've checked the fuses inside the car and in the engine compartment first right? Next, take a voltage meter tool and check to make sure that the battery is putting out over 12.4 volts of power without the engine running or the key in the ignition switch. If the power's less than 12.0 volts, then the battery is shot. Get a new one and remember to put a good coating of dielectric grease onto the new battery terminals and the battery cables after you've cleaned them off with a cleaning tool and some baking soda and hot water. Next, just to be on the safe side, I'd replace the fuel filter and pour a bottle of stuff called "Star-Tron" from Napa Automotive into the gas tank. The fuel filter is a round job located on the drivers side of the engine compartment right above and behind the spare tire. E-mail me if you've got any more problems."

bmxer replied: "tell your bf to get a real car"

MIllsy replied: "Maybe have the immobiliser checked out if there's no mechanical movement at all when he starts the key."

kgloc replied: "sounds like some botched electrics. My subaru's electronics were fucking up and the mechanic told me I needed to put a paper clip into a wire port. Seemed to work, but dont go trying it in any port, because he also mentioned that you can short the whole ECU and wreck your car"

2008 Subaru WRX modifications...? I just bought a 2008 Subaru WRX (No, not the STI, I wanted the sedan). Although the naysayers have all jumped on the "OH, I hate it!" bandwagon, I personally love it. Yes, the 2009 has 40 more horses, but I got a good deal on it because it is the end of the model year. Anyhow, I want to throw a cold air intake and new exhaust on it, which should put it well over the 2009 model's performance range. What other mods are recommended? I don't want to switch-out the turbos, way too expensive.

John K replied: "downpipe too you can probably find a programmer for it somewhere online as well. you could try upping the boost a bit and maybe getting bigger injectors. these cars are tough to build on a budget....."

I <3 my Suby. replied: "The intake and exhaust will not give you anywhere near the 09 power without tuning. You need some king of engine management To control the boost and fueling to make power with any mods. With just the intake and exhaust, you might make another 15hp. Maybe. Add some tuning and you can easily double that and much more reliably. Now if you are getting a tune, you might as well add the down pipe like the guy above stated but only if you are getting it tuned. All together, these mods should put you closer to STI power but more torque. I would find a tuner in your area to talk to as far as your goals and budget and he should suggest the best path to take. There are many kinds of engine management out there and different tuners use different programs so it's best to pick a tuner and find out what he works with. And one last thing. Do not neglect suspension while you get caught up in the power game. I would get that out of the way before starting with any power mods. Get used to the car and learn to control it first."

vicinic replied: "nothing you can can do short of a turbo replacement will get the 40HP back. Subie renamed the 2008 WRX to a 2009 GT. the wrx has changed from the 2.0 liter to 2.5 liter and back and forth between abot 220 HP and 250 HP since 2002."

tonuprocker replied: "an intake and exhaust will absolutely not gain 40hp and not anywhere near "well over". you will need to go stage 2 , wich is a full 3" turbo back and a custom tune from a reputable tuner to see a 30-40 hp gain."

Boost gauge on a 2004 subaru wrx? Just installed a boost gauge on my 2004 wrx. I have never seen a boost gauge on a car before so i want to check its working correctly. When the car idle's the gauge shows im pulling a vaccum but when i hit the throttle it jumps past zero to around 10 psi at full throttle. Is that working correctly? P.S. i know how a turbo and turbo system works, i just wanted to know about the boost specs.

David Lopez replied: "Yup Its working well, I have a '02 wrx that idles in vacuum and at Wot it boost at about 12-13 psi"

John Paul replied: "Sounds like stock boost pressure and at idle 15 to 18 inches vacuum. That is how it works. Now to bleed off some air from the waste gate boost pill in the vacuum hose or boost controller and give that car about 15 to 17 psi and only use the best gasoline."

Mahatma Coat replied: "It sounds like you don't have a firm grasp on how a turbo works. Or what a boost gauge measures. Or what boost is."

andy c replied: "yes it work..mine 2006 STi....hit at 15~17...sound great... no reget brought this car...."

lastnightinmyhead replied: "10 psi is a little low. If stock, it should be ~13.5 psi."

06 Subaru WRX won't start. just clicks once and the positive battery cable smokes a little. Please help me? I just replaced the clutch and when I put it back together it won't start now on its own. Will start if I try to jump it from another car if I put the negative jumper cable on the block of my subaru. Already replaced positive and negative cables. Bought new battery and Tested starter at autozone. Please if anyone could help by giving any suggestions it would be awesome. Would love to start the subie without a jump. :) The cables are on right. Red pos and black neg. And the horn sounds just fine. Thanks for the suggestions though. :) it almost seems like the power is going to the ground. The battery ground has to be disconnected from the battery to the inner fenderwell to even jump it from another car to make it start. We replaced all the battery cables 3 times now thinking they were no good. I am stumped. We tried to look for a short or exposed wire maybe touching the block and there are none that we can tell. Please continue with the suggestions I'm willing to try almost anything. Thank you.

surfdawaves replied: "all i think is that maybe you have the cables crossed? black to negative red to positive"

sara5 replied: "as it is new battery ....change the cables connection and checkedc ...press horn if its ok ....it should blow high ..if less that means ....connections ...see ligting ...ok or mixed up ....its earthing /grounding ...is ok .check it"
