What kind of Cruise control can I get for my bike? 2004 Honda SuperHawk, or a VTR1000F? I got my bike the first day of this year. I have put over 10,000 miles on it since I have had it. About the only thing I don't like about this bike is that the handle bars vibrate at about 4,000 rpm. after about an hour of running my hand gets numb. I know your suppose to stop and take a break, but not much longer after I start ridding again my hand goes numb again. Does anyone have some Ideas that might work. I have heard about one that is on the bar end that you twist with your hand forward to engage it. and all you have to do is touch the throttle and it will let off. Anyone know where I can get one?

emucompboy replied: "You're not solving the problem with a throttle lock. What some riders suggest is to fill the handlebar with gel or some other weighted material, and/or use weighted bar-end sliders. See the link for a discussion of these. You should also have a look at your engine mounts, or try running a tank of premium gas."

bikerchickjill replied: "I've been using a throttle rocker for over ten years. Can't say enough good things about it. ADDED: A gadget like throttle rocker is safer than a throttle lock for the simple reason that you can slow down and stop faster in an emergency or evasive type situation (like a car cutting in front of you at 75mph on the freeway and then suddenly slowing to 60mph)."

i need to know how to set the clock on a 2001 honda superhawk motorcycle? I do not have the owners manual, and can only seem to figure out how to set it to military time. I would rather not use military time, I have to think too hard :p And as for those that would ask what the point of having a clock on the motorcycle...you have one in your car right???? Someone that sees no use in a clock on a motorcycle, obviously is just a rider to be cool. Some people actually ride a motorcycle more than just every once in a while when only the weather is perfect, and all their buddies decide to ride for an afternoon. Some people actually ride on a regular basis. It is a LOT better on gas mileage than cars.

sal the dog replied: "You have a clock on your motorcycle??? What the hell is the point of that?? Get real - I've seen clocks in cars go from 24 hr to 12 hr if you hold down both the Hr and Min button at the same time. No Idea if this applies to your bike, but it might. Clock on a motorcycle... what is the world coming to... Cheers!"

guardrailjim replied: "I don't know about your bike, but this how to do it on a CBR600 (it should be the same). -Turn on the key. -Push both buttons at the same time until the #s start flashing. -Set the hrs & mins using each button. -Turn off the key. -Or just call your Honda dealership."

Doing wheelies on 98 honda superhawk? I was wondering the best way to do wheelies on a 98 honda superhawk, i bought it used about 2 months ago and wanted to start doing wheelies, i would like to know the best way and if it is easy or hard on my bike

Skillet replied: "make sure you have good insurance, find a closed parking lot, wear your helmet hold the gas tank with your knees lock your arms so that the handle bars cant turn and dont shift your weight from side to side, stay centered. and do not use your front brake. 1st gear 5k rpm let off the throttle for a half a second then roll it on full throttle your bike should climb until you let off the gas a little. if the bike comes up fast and scary let off the throttle it should fall back down on its own, you can also put the front wheel down by VERY GENTLY tapping the REAR brake, if you press it very hard your gonna get hurt but you can tap it. most any bike can wheelie this way 600cc+ as long as it isnt lowered or has poor running gear. my 900cc honda will do it any time i go full throttle in the first 2 gears."

avcarguy replied: "sYes, it is hard on your bikes front suspension, and steering. You can blow out your fork seals, which will cause the forks to lose oil. Could also damage steering head bearing"

Mattwood440 replied: "Do what the first guy said and remember what the second guy said. The 1000cc V-Twin was practically made for wheelies (I have an SV1000). Once you've done it a couple times you should be able to set the front end back down with less force than hitting a small bump in the road. Don't go crazy though, for the obvious reasons, and because acting like a fool makes non-riders think that all riders must be brain dead. Like the idiot doing a wheelie on the freeway at 90mph in traffic."

Dan S replied: "Great bike but you're going to hurt yourself and the bike attempting wheelies. Since you're fascinated with flirting with paralysis, roll off the trottle when you're accelerating in first gear, then hit the gas again. Doesn't take much. Once you think you are getting the hang of it, check this site out..."

honda superhawk 996cc sportbike? im a begginer and know almost nothing i have visual learning on bikes....should i get a honda superhawk 966 cc as my first bike..i live in cali and am looking for a bike from the price range from 0.00 lol to 3,000.00 so what do you think give me all the comments you got..nasty ones nice ones i dont care since i just care to see what you think..but make sure its about the bike...if ur selling one thats fast nice and is WORKING ill check it...im a real good driver by the way and know ill learn real fast like i have in the past...any bike over 650 ill buy nothing less whats the downside to this bike..such as pros and cons...not the speed..just maintainance and stuff like that..thanks i appreciate your time and answer on my question

Will replied: "It would be a mistake to get this bike as your first bike. It has too much power/speed for a beginner. That;s not a slight against you and this is a great bike, its just that you should learn on something small and light and not powerful. You probably want a year or two of experience before moving up to a larger bike. Honda made a VTR250, which would be a good learning bike but a bit cramped if you are taller than 5'8. Usually small bikes are easier to sell when you are done with them, and you could save thousands on insurance by starting small. The Superhawk 996/also known as the VTR1000, is a v twin engined sport bike, well made, reliable, good handling. There's not really a negative. It does have carburetors, more modern bikes have fuel injection but the tests of this bike say the carburetors work really well and you won't miss FI."

Tune up my 98 Honda Superhawk? I just recently bought my vtr1000. I've been riding it for a while too (100-200 miles), and I don't feel anything super wrong with it. The bike has been previously garaged for 3 years, and I'm uncertain if I need a full tune up. Any suggestions what might need to be done?

trackerrrr replied: "Definitely change the oil and filter on it if you haven't already. Flush the brake fluid with fresh stuff front and rear and the clutch too if it's hydraulic. If the bike still runs well then it's your call if you want to change out the sparkplugs. You should check the air filter also to make sure it's still good and not too dirty. If your bike has a radiator I would also do a flush and fill with it too with fresh antifreeze. Lube the chain. Make sure the tires are still good and not dry rotted on the sidewalls."

ky509 replied: "If it is running fine no miss firing or vibrations I wouldn't`t be overly concerned. I would how ever go back to where I purchased it and ask when it was last tuned and what all they did in the tune u if they did in fact do one. If no info is available Then I would lay out how I intended to keep it maintained. First I would get on the internet and plug in my make and model number into a search engine and gather all the info I can get my hands on as far as maintenance. Then I would determine dates for doing these things. But on my first go around Iwouldl kind of push the date a little earlier just to make sure that if it had not had a recent oil change and tune up itwouldn'tn`t be going too long before getting one. You are better off having twomaintenance'ss close together than two that are too far apart. Once you get your first one out of the way then you will be on track for the rest of them as long as you own the vehicle"
