Does the Mazda RX-8 use rotary engine technology? I heard that the Mazda RX-7 was a car that used this new (at the time) rotary engine technology. This was so good that it could go up to 11k RPM without damaging the engine. The only problem with this is that mechanics needed to re-learn how to work on these cars. The result was that most mechanics didn't learn how to work on them. So, finding someone who can fix your RX-7 would be a tedious task. My question is: Is it still as hard to find a rotary engine mechanic today? In either case, does the new generation of Mazda RX-8's use this technology?

JeffyB replied: "Yes, the RX8 is a rotary, and I'd say you need to take an RX7 or RX8 to a mazda dealer for repairs if you are smart."

SVOMAN replied: "yes it's rotary powered.. Powerful 1.3L RENESIS rotary engine: 232-hp 6-speed MT with an impressive 9000 rpm redline and a 212-hp 6-speed AT with a 7500 rpm redline."

cnshinn replied: "Rotary engines have been around quite a bit longer than the RX7. Mazda has used rotary engines for over 40 years. All of their "RX" units have been rotary powered. And other manufactures have used the design before Mazda, like a company called NSU If you want more history on the rotary Google the inventors name, Felix Wankel. And to learn how they work, go here: Because the engine is so different from a piston engine most mechanics don't know how to work on them. You want to find a rotary specialist if the motor internals need work. A regular mechanic can fix everything else. C7S replied: "RX=Rotary. All Mazda's with the RX name had always had and always will have Rotary engines. Today, it is easy to find a rotary engine mechanic. Any Mazda dealership could fix it and about 35% of the mechanic shops out there know how to fix them. Make sure you read the owners manual so that you don't have any problems."

what octane rating do Mazda rotary engines use? I just bought a 1988 RX7 non turbo 13B and there was no manual that came with it. what octane rating do i use in it?

ted w replied: "you can use the cheap 89 octane but i would suggest the higher octane or buy octane booster to add with lower octane fuel."

Why is the rotary engine were not widely used or manufactured by motor companies? Only Mazda did this as far as i'm aware of.I think it's a cool engine.I wish i had the special wankel racing engine for my car.Many of the disadvantages of the engine is also being solved.What do you guys think?

i have a mazda rotary 13b 6 port and was wundering how much power i will lose with kepin 5n6 ports open? with them open would it help if i use a small turbo it is going in a 73 vw bug with a carb i would like 2 get 200 hp suggestions are welcome please help

Cassidy replied: "Go to pinneapple racing (not sure if spelled right) and they have replacement sleeves that go right in. Racing beat headers w/free flow exhaust. A turbo II mass air flow sensor with a cold air intake in the mix and you will have about 210 hp. Thats what mine does but thats with the proper tuning (Haltec). On a stock ECU you should get about 190HP."

Should I swap a 2jzgte into a 2002 Mazda Rx7, or use a built rotary? Any input is much opritiated. I don't care much about how the 'r' in Rx7 stands for 'rotary'. I just want sick, insane power in a Rx7 body. Is the swap done often? Is it easy? What tranny would I use (r154 possibly)? Could I get the same power out of a rotary as in the 2jzgte for the same price? If so, direct me to the eng. Can the Rx7 handle 800-1000 whp? Thanks a lot guys! Really?
